Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I'm a little nervous wearing my set on my honeymoon. I was thinking about buying a costume jewelry set that I saw on a website. Has anyone else done the same?

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I talked about this with FH because we do a lot of things where I'm afraid to wear my ring and have it get damaged or lost. For Valentines Day he went back to the jeweler he bought my ring from and had them make and exact replica with white gold instead of platinum and CZ instead of the diamonds. You can't tell the difference unless you look inside at the band to see which metal it is (and the platinum is a little heavier). I'm definitely taking the fake on HM and I suggested, knowing him, he get an imposter ring to take too!

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I owned a fake e-ring from before I get engaged...to keep guys away from me

But, we got 'casual' wedding bands that we will use for travel

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I think it's a great idea, but it won't really work for me. My ring is pave and it would cost a pretty penny for them to make a replica, even with CZ. I think I'm just going to wear it on the honeymoon. It's insured and I'm sure there will be plenty of married people wearing jewelry. My mom has never left her ring home for a vacation.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I am going to wear mine as well on the HM. Just won't wear it when we do any major activities (i.e. scuba, snorkelling, etc). Our wedding bands are plain platinum bands so it shouldn't be bad.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

FH is more nervous about leaving the ring home than he is taking it away with us. It's insured so it'll be fine either way.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

My Mom did this, it's not an exact replica but it's pretty close, she brought them from QVC (diamondique collection) and let me tell you she gets more compliments on that set, than the real thing.

If you think you will feel more secure wearing a fake set, then you should do it

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

When we got married I used my diamond wedding band and a plain gold band in the ceremony, this way they are both my real wedding rings. My diamond band is a set to the engagement ring. When I go skiing or something like that I wear the plain gold one, which happens to be the match to my husbands plain white gold ring. I was going to leave my diamonds at home on my honeymoon, but couldnt bear to do it. ALl the good hotels have safes in the room, I used them and wore the plain gold when we did water sports etc. I rather use my plain band then wear the fake version of my diamonds that would seem too weird to me.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I went on vacation a few years ago....and my apartment was robbed....all my jewelry was stolen. Except the cheap pair of earrings and watch I took (because I didn't want to take any good jewelry with me). I would rather take my real rings with me....this way I can keep my eye on then

We're getting plain rings to take on vacation. The real stuff will be in the safe deposit box.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

Why not just not wear anything?

I plan to go to my honeymoon with out my e-ring.. maybe a band.. unless its diamond, and than I probably won't wear anything.

Since I will be with FH all the time anyway, I don't think it matter

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

This may sound paranoid, but I think you have to consider your personal safety as well as the safety of your jewlry. A thief will not know that your replicas are not the real thing. I'd suggest wearing plain bands on your honeymoon & leaving the diamonds in a safe deposit box at home.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

We both went to one of the jewlery stands in the mall and for like $22 a piece we both bought white gold plain bands to wear for example at the pool, beach etc if something happens to it when I'm snorkling then I could care less

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

i bought a silver ring as a wedding band to wear in tahiti because i wasn't sure how it would be there. i wasn't sure where i'd be able to leave it if i went in the water, etc. neways i felt dumb though because when i got there EVERYONE was wearing their diamonds but me!

i'm debating it. i also waitress some nights and would like a ring that if i lost it, i wouldn't feel too bad.

Re: Has anyone bought fake e-ring and wedding band for traveling?

I bought a fake e-ring when I went to South Beach last summer. At first FH was really offended at the concept, but my real e-ring wasn't insured yet and I was paranoid about losing it. In the end he agreed it was better this way and he held on to my real ring while I was gone.

I don't know about the HM.... though...sounds like a good idea to wear really plain or fake ones and leave the real stuff in a safe deposit box!
