Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
I've heard good things about Lillette's Bridal in Baldwin. My sister went to Kleinfeld first, went to a lot of other places, and went back nd bought her dress at Kleinfeld. Nothing else compared. They do spend personal time with you.

Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
The Wedding Center in Commack has a ton of stuff, and you don't need an appointment to go... It's not as personal as if you went to a boutique where you have someone working with you to find something but if you just want to start looking they have a big selection there :)Good luck!

I agree. I got my dress there. They have been absolutely wonderful so far. You get a lot of personal attention.

Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
I went to Priscilla of Boston and loved every dress they had. You can check them out on the web site first. I have to say that just about every dress was great - even the ones I didn't love online or on the hanger.

Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
Can anyone recommend a small place like a boutique or a small shop to start at? I don't want to feel overwhelmed when I walk in. I like a lot of personal attention and need help. There are so many dress styles I like. HELP??

For some place to start, try Valentina's in Brooklyn. Everyone there is wonderful. If your dress is over a certain amount, you get a free headpiece, free veil, free alternations and a free slip.

Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
The Bridal Garden in Bethpage was great.it is pretty small, but I still thought they had a good variety within the type I was looking for.
I made an appt for late on a Saturday & Colette spent about an hour with me & was very helpful.
If I said, I like this except. . . she knew exactly waht to try next.
I tried on about 12 dresses & found my dress there.
I had been to RK, Jessica Mclintock, House fo Botticelli ( in Westchester) & Estelle's first though, so I had an idea of what I wanted. House of Botticelli & the Bridal Garden wer ethe only ones that were regular birdal shops, so i got more personalized attention, but House of Botticeli didn't have much of a selection in my price range.

I had no idea of what I wanted and I went to Lillette's - Carol was great, she spent a lot of time with me and picked out different styles for me to try.

Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
Here's my advice to both of you -- and this is coming from someone who went to almost every bridal shop on the island searching for her gown -- make an appt, preferably the first one in the morning so that you get the attention you want. It's really even better if you can go in the middle of the day on a weekday. BUT, if you are going on a weekend and want your due attention, stay away from Lilette's -- it's a total madhouse there on the weekends. I felt like as was at a 60% off sale at Macys... on a Sunday... during Christmas!!!
I would also have to advise against Commack Wedding Center and the Wedding Plaza (totally mobbed). The problem with these places also is that when you come out to stand on the pedestals with your gown on, there's tons of people out there! And their fitting rooms are not nice at all.
The places that I went to that I felt I got the attention you're supposed to get and felt I was treated the best were:
Paradise Bridals in Patchogue (but you have to go early because this place gets mobbed too)
Bridal Suite of Patchogue
Bridal Suite of Bayshore (although their selection is pathetic)
And I second Bridal Garden in Bethpage.
Last but not least, the place I went to where I was treated best, believe it or not, was Bridal Reflections both in Carle Place and Massapequa.

Not sure where you live, but I really liked Bridal Accents on Glen cove Rd in East Hills... small, nice shop, not overwhelming, very good prices and different dresses... As for Priscilla... I personally did not like it, even though I was given personal attention, I don't like the idea that you can't see the whole collection and they just bring you dresses.I've been to kleinfelds and RK Bridal, I agree they have the biggest selection, but to me, it was too many and the service sucked, JMO.

Re: Great 1st places to start dress shopping??????
Carmela's Bridal Garden in Huntington on Jericho Turnpike (between Rt 110 and Round Swamp Rd). They were very nice and they have a good selection, although they are not a huge place. Also, Lydia's in Copiague - extremely nice people in there and a decent selection.
