Just had the WORST experience at the Queens Marriage Clerk's office!
The office closes at 4, so my FI and I got there at 3:10 - cutting it a little close, but not so much - we wandered around for like 10 minutes trying to find the correct entrance. So first you have to wait to get inside. Then you have to wait to go through security. When we finally got in the small, hot, dirty office, we went on what seemed to be the right line. A lady came up to us and handed us and other couples marriage license forms. We filled ours out and waited for about 10 minutes on the line to the cashier. The cashier spends like two minutes once we get up to her printing things out, and then informs us that NO, we needed to be in the other line and get the thing typed up and THEN see the cashier. We're pissed, because there are NO signs telling us that and the lady who gave us the form SAW which line we were in and didn't SAY anything. So we get into the other line, just to hear that three of their computers BROKE DOWN, so they only have two to input info. LONG, LONG WAIT. At 4:25, the last lady shuts down her computer and the cashier lady leaves and we're wondering what the hell is going on. The cashier lady is like - don't worry, that guy will take care of you. They all leave and then the sole guy left comes out at 4:30 and tells us, sorry, there's no staff left and he's not a typist, he can't help us today, we have to come back tommorrow morning.I can't even BEGIN to tell you how upset I am. We took the day off to do this and now we have to go back!
It's RIDICULOUS how the city runs! The ineptitide is astonding! WHY THE HELL didn't that lady didn't put us in the right line??!!!!
SO, when you go for your license-
Go BEFORE 3. I would say the latest should be 2.
DO NOT GO TO THE CASHIER FIRST. GET A FORM FROM SOMEONE BEFORE YOU GO ON ANY LINE AND FILL IT OUT COMPLETELY.
BE PREPARED TO GO THROUGH SECURITY.
Bring a book.

Re: Just had the WORST experience at the Queens Marriage Clerk's office!
I feel for you...... I went to that office yesterday to find out their computer system was down so we decided to run to the Manhasset office and try to get it done there. Things didn't go as planned. FH has been married before and has a copy of the divorce decree but LI requires a certified copy of the divorce which we didn't have and wouldn't use the copy as evidence that he actually did get one
. FH has to go to the Mineola office and request a certified copy before we can go back again to the queens office to get our marriage license. What a PITA!!!!!!
