Re: Ron Ben Israel cake
I really wanted to splurge on s sylvia weinstock cake but my FH convinced me that since we are having a vienesse hour that nobody would eat the cake so we decided not to splurge on it. I was going to splurge on a groom's cake from Cakeline but they wanted 500 dollars for a cake that would feed 30 people so i am now getting it from Audreys bakery where they quoted me approx. 100 dollars.

Re: Ron Ben Israel cake
I have tasted his cakes and found them to be to sweet and rich. I do think Sylvia Weinstock does a much more beautiful and better tasting cake and is the same price range both are very expensive. Try Danny at Oheka he is the pastry chef there and they do cakes for parties at other locations . Call Oheka and ask for Kelly.

His cakes are absolutely gorgeous...I haven't seen more elaborate cakes, but they are very expensive. My florist told me a friend of his did one of his cakes & it was $6000!!!

Re: Ron Ben Israel cake
I don't think I can bring myself to go & look let alone taste...I'm too afraid we'll walk out of their with a signed contract leaving me to choose between a white Hefty bag or a Glad bag for a dress!
We did go look at Gail Watson & I have to say her cakes are much more reasonably prices. She quoted us $1600 for a 200 person cake. That was with buttercream icing, the fondant is a dollar or 2 more pp depending on detail - but she said she can do the BC to look just like fondant.

Re: Ron Ben Israel cake
junebride - we are going on memorial day. they only have tastings during the week between 9-3. what the heck is that?! we both have off that date, so thats when we are going. i really don't know what to expect when we go! i am a little nervous!anyway, we were going to add on vienese as well....so do you think the cake would be too much? or maybe just do a mini vienese?
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....................
so, i have never heard of cynthia....maybe i will call her as well. and maybe the guy at oheka would be a good guy to call too! thanks for the suggestions! any others would be appreciated!

I think his cakes are beautiful!!!I do have a question though. Your catering
hall is allowing you to bring a cake from the outside.
I am getting married at Chateau Briand and they are the same owners. Did you ask them if this is allowed?
I know some halls won't serve the cake if it is not thier own.

Fox Hollow told me I could bring a cake from an outsde baker BUT just like any of their vendors, the person must have liability insurance. They'll explain that they need specifically but it is essentially a liability form which says 'If people get sick off my cake I am responsible & have insurance to cover the damages....' Also, since Fox Hollow is not providing my cake they give you an upgrade in an area of your choice. They said the cake is valued at something like $2-3 a slice pp. Chateau Briand is probly the same way.

Correct. That was what I was told also. The vendor must have liability insurance. I am going for my final menu selection at Westbury Manor tonight so I will let you know what they give me credit or allow me to get since I am not using their cake vendor.

Just an FYI if you are not getting married at Oheka I believe you have to have someone pick up the cake - they do not do deliveries.
