DJ references Needed - The Pros?

Greetings! I'm posting for my sister who is planning her May 2001 wedding. I was hoping you folks could help....she's not listening to me re: advise on how to find a DJ. Why? Just because I'm the big sister and, well, she has to do the exact opposite of what I say. :)

She's having 150-180 guests at the Astoria Manor. Last night she told me she contacted the Pros for a quote. Told her about $1K for a DJ and give aways. I thought that was a very low price for a Saturday evening wedding in May. I'm afriad she's being low balled or getting a crappy deal. She has no personal referrals to them....I told her to post a message here for feedback (b/c the board was so helpful during my planning). Again, she hasn't because I suggested it. Sigh...

So I'm posting...has anyone been to a wedding where they've performed? Does anyone have a DJ referral they can pass along? The bride and groom prefer a freestyle music theme and want the fun throwaways....preferably someone who can teach those fun dances too. Ideally, we'd like someone who has Greek Music but if not, is service oriented and would be willing to accomodate.

I too need a referral for a DJ. My FI and I went to see one and he was a complete idiot. My FI said he thought the guy was a clown and asked where his suit was!! LOL

So if anyone has a good DJ please let me know!

I know that it has been said many times on this board before but I'm gonna say it once more. Spin Around Sound. I haven't actually heard them DJ but I got a really good feeling when I met with Tom the owner. Really cool guy, much more in tune with what we wanted than anyone else. He listened and I think he's going to do an excellent job.

Who are you using for your florist?

Anne - how did you hear about them? Do you know how we can get in touch with him? Any idea on cost? Please post or email me directly at [email protected] Thanks!

Rachel;

I think for my Brother's wedding rehearsal they included the info in the invites, but that was because about 75% of the guests were from out of town and they wanted them to be able to plan their travel accordingly. If you have a lot of out of town guests you may want to get them out fairly soon after the invites, or include them if you haven't mailed yet.

I heard about them on this website. Everyone had nothing but good things to say about them. Their website is www.spinaroundsound.com. Tom is the owner. The phone is (212) 352-0007. They are in NYC but you can also arrange to meet with Tom at his house in Garden City. I know his own wedding was around this time so he may be away on a honeymoon at the moment. His packages range from $1199 - $1799 and he'll also customize a package for you. I was very pleased with him.

This websites purpose is for people to get information, ideas, and opinions about L.I. Weddings. You need to all learn how to relax and have an open mind. I'm not asking for you to agree with what I have to say -- I'm simply stating my opinion, which is what she asked for.
