Ladies: Is it okay to wear a suit with a fancy shirt to a formal, evening wedding?
Not that it matters anymore, because my friend is now divorced. But, two years ago, I wore a brown suit with a nice shirt underneath to his wedding.

I think it's fine to wear a dark suit to a night time wedding. What else would you do, rent a tux for every wedding you attend?

Well there are formal suits that are appropriate for a wedding. i think if it is a suit you would wear to work - it is not for a wedding too.

Aren't most suits formal? Not sport coats! Unless it states black tie affair, absolutely should no man show up in a tux to any wedding!! unless they are grandparents, parents, or Groomsman to the bride and groom.

I agree. Tuxes are for bridal party/immediate family only. Suits are for all other men ...

Re: Ladies: Is it okay to wear a suit with a fancy shirt to a formal, evening wedding?
Are we talking about suits on men or women?! I think we are talking about suits on women...in that case I say a suit is only appropriate if it's for the evening, for example something in black with maybe some satin on it or shimery threading through it. No shirt underneath. I wouldn't wear a suit that I wear to work to a wedding though. It wouldn't be dressy enough.

Yes, I am female, and I was asking about myself

Re: Ladies: Is it okay to wear a suit with a fancy shirt to a formal, evening wedding?
Since the questions is posed to Ladies and men don't really wear fancy shirts - I think she is talking about women wearing suits.
I agree that a work suit would not be dressy enough for a wedding but there are beautiful dressy suits that would be perfect.

I thought we were talkign ladies' suits. there are defitnely dressier ones with beading & such.
I wouldn't wear a women's business suit to a wedding, but friends of mine did at a wedding last year ( but it was daytime) & I was less offended by them thant I was by other freinds that wore sweaters & skirts or one girl who wore a windbreaker over o WHITE dress ( I didn't know her- she was just at the next table)
