Hand Cancelling invites
I just came back from the post office, and they told me they won't hand cancel my invitations. If I want it done they will charge me 90 cents each!
I've never heard that they charge. So where do I go now? I don't want them ruing my invitations that I paid almost $800 for!!
I AM SO ANGRY!

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
Go to another postoffice. People have had problems before where some post offices will and some won't. The one in Bethpage didn't charge me anything to cancel my STDs . I remember another bride posting that her post office charged her 4 cents per invite. You can do it, you just need to call around!

What is hand cancelling?
I think its when they hand stamp them instead of running them through the machine - to avoid crushing the bows or whatever within the invite.
By the way - you are looking smashing in your new suit!

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
Try a different post office. Mine (in Glen Head) handed me a stamp and let me cancel them myself. It didn't take long and wasn't a big deal.I would pay to have anyone do that...

Um, yeah, they aren't supposed to be charging for that.Try the Mineola Post Office, they did for me for my E-party invites with no problems at all!
Handcancelling also avoids those ugly black lines all over the envelope...

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
i had no clue you had to ask for hand-cancelling & it really looks like a truck ran over all my envelopes! it was so bad that in the end we actually thought it was kind of funny (what else could you do but laugh?!)

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
I asked my local PO (Union Sq) and he said I'd have to stand there and hand cancel them myself. I took them to the main PO on 34th and the manager did them for me.

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
After hearing about a bunch of places that wouldn't do it, I had no problem getting it done at the main post office on Staten Island....try another PO. Good luck!

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
wow, that's not right.. The post office (in georgia) did my STD's, for free, and I didn't even know what she was doing, but now I know..
I would definately try somewhere else.. you want your invites to look the way they do now, that's the reason we spend SO MUCH $$$ ON THEM!!!
GOOD LUCK

I don't know where you live but I know Bohemia and Ronkonkoma PO's let you hand-cancel. You have to stamp them yourself but they don't charge.

Re: Hand Cancelling invites
smithtown also lets you hand cancel them.we asked to do them ourselves to make sure they were done right. i was afraid that they would say 'sure, we'll hand canel them' and then after we left, run them through a machine!
it takes a little time, but it's worth the effort...especially if you spent so much on the invites themselves!!!
