Girls Taking Clomid....
Im sorry but I have another question. I have a friend who is taking it and her dr. is monitoring her on the Clomid, for example coming in and taking sonograms. My dr. did tell me that. He just told me whan to take the pills, have sex, and to count the # of days in my cycle. He is hoping it will be 32 days. He said on the 32nd day to take a HPT, or I can come in and have a sonogram.
What were you told to do?

Re: Girls Taking Clomid....
I started this cycle. My Dr. told me about when I should be ovulating and told me to come in right before my period is due so she can check my ovaries.
I had terrible abdominal pains during the time she told me I'd be ovulating so I got nervous and went for a sonogram. It showed I had a small cyst on an ovary. Not a big deal though.
I went back to the dr. yesterday with my temp chart and she told me it looks perfect! She did the ovary check (just with a pelvic exam) I ovulated and my temp is still up. If it stays up until Friday and I dont get my period I should go in for a Preg. test!
If I get my period she'll start me again on the same dose of clomid. If i HADN"T ovulated, she would have raised the dose for the next cycle.
Anyway, to answer your question better, I don't think you need a sonogram as long as you are charting and have that information for you doctor. If you feel better having one, maybe you can request one. I wanted one b/c of my pains, but I also wanted to make sure I wasn't having any abnormal reaction to the clomid.

Re: Girls Taking Clomid....
I went for a sonagram on day 3 of my cycle (to check that the olvaries were ok), then took Clomid days 4 through 9. I went back on day 12 I beleive and had another sonogram because they wanted to make sure I had viable eggs since I was having an insemmenation. Now I'm waiting for day 32 to go back and hopefully I'll be PG : ).
I think though if i wasn't having an insemmenation they would not have had me back for the second sonogram.

This is what I did too.
I would think that the DR would want to monitor you whether you are having an IUI or not. How would he know if the Clomid is working for you without doing a u/s? Maybe you need a higher dose, etc....JMO
It seems to me a lot of DRs are just throwing Clomid around

Re: Girls Taking Clomid....
My Dr told me to take the pills on days 5-9 of my cycle. The first month I was taking it he wanted me to come in to the office on day 23, 24 or 25 of my cycle and they took blood to see if I ovulated that month. I did so I am still on the same dose of Clomid.

Re: Girls Taking Clomid....
Diane, I found this...
How will I be monitored?
Many physicians will not perform routine ultrasounds on a Clomid cycle unless an HCG is added. However, on or around cycle day 21, a progesterone check (blood draw) is often done. Ideally, clomiphene would trigger higher progesterone production, which can improve the quality of the uterine lining and/or lengthen the luteal phase of the cycle.
In addition, an ovulation predictor kit can be used to test for an LH surge. Each kit is different and you may need to test on a different day when on this drug - do read the instructions carefully. Clomid can create hostile cervical mucus or dry up the mucus, in which case a postcoital test may be done. However, this would not be necessary when undergoing intra-uterine insemination (IUI).
Once on Clomid, the only way to determine if it is "doing it's job" is proper monitoring. A cd 3 scan may reveal any cysts, another scan around cd 11 or 12 may be conducted to check follicular development and the lining, and a progesterone check six or seven days past ovulation may be performed to see if progesterone levels are high enough to support a pregnancy (p4 levels should be "15" or better). Also, a post coital test (PCT) should be done when either blood work or ovulation predictor kits detect an LH surge. If hostile mucous presents a threat to the sperm, then an IUI should be done. When follicle(s) are big enough, an HCG shot followed within 36 hours by an IUI procedure may provide optimal results.
This is the site... Clomid
