Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

The Mets owned Saturday.. played great.
The Yanks owned Sunday.. played great.

I didn't see Gsme 2.. and am kinda glad I didn't. THat was a train wreck that continued into the first inning of Game 3.

You can't spot anyone (especially the Yanks) 6 runs in the first and expect to win. They made it closer. and that was admirable. Those other 4 runs were a killer. That was it.

As a Met fan.. here's how I feel...

The Mets are 2 games under .500 and are looking up at the Fish 3 1/2 games out. With the All Star break in 2 week or so.. if they can just stay within that 4 game window of first place.. that would be great for the Amazin's. Heck, last year the season was over by now.

The Yankees winning two games.. the Mets winning one.. it is to be what is expected.

They may play better at Shea next week. Hopefully they will.

And with respect to wagers around here..

Whatever the case.. at least Felcicia isn't making Don have to walk around in a Yankee thong in Penn Station at 2 in the morning. JK!!!!

Re: Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

It was a fun series. Lots of hitting. Slugfest both days for each team.

I agree with you about the Mets and their placement. Problem is you have some hard teams coming up-Reds, Yankees, Marlins & Phillies. And I think the Mets are away for every game except the Yankees. IF they can keep pace over the next 2 weeks and be close by the All Star break, they may actually have a shot at the division.

Now for the Yankees, bring on the Sux baby. It's time to bury them for the season.

It all depends on the Mets IMO. They either just do enough to lose or they win.. thus the .500 record. They have shown the can play with the NL East over those first 12 games. They could have easily swept the Reds. But they didn't. They certainly must do better because so far there is not a dominant team in this division.

Re: Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

The only satisfaction I can get out of this weekend series... is the fact that the Mets were probably the single most reason why the Yanks did not wind up getting Freddy Garcia in a trade.

There were talks that the Yanks were going to send the rookie Halsey and a few other players to Seattle for Garcia. Didn't anyone else notice how fast Garcia got traded to the White Sox after the Mets pounded on Halsey on Saturday? The Seattle interest in Halsey went right down the drain after the Mets exposed him.

Oh well. The Mets still looked good. They almost came back both games. Hidalgo looked great and if he keeps it up.. the Mets should make a run at 1st place.

I heard Seattle wanted Contreas. Halsey only came up a week ago so I'd be surprised if his name was in the mix.

Re: Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

They didn't want Contraras. They want to dump payroll and aquire prospects. Not take on Jose's big contract.

This is why they wanted Hasley.

I'm just saying I heard it was Contreas. I could have heard wrong, but that was the reports I saw.

I am sure Contraras has been the topic of a lot of trade rumors. But I think with Seattle... they were looking to dump payroll since they are in the middle of a losing season.

Thats why they ended up trading him to the White Sox and got two VERY good prospects.

Re: Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

You're right, his name did come up a lot when trades were mentioned. But I think after Sunday's performance the Yankees are going to give him a couple of more starts before they look to move him. He's not easy to trade though because of his contract. Unless the Yankees are willing to pay some of his salary.

The Garcia trade was a great trade for both clubs. Did you hear that Schmidt on SF was on the trade block? I can't imagine they would trade him.

There's NO way the Giants can trade Schmidt.. if they did.. they can definitely kiss first place and possibly the playoffs bye bye.

Re: Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

The Yanks are definitely going to stick with Contreas now.... unless they can bring in a REALLY high salaried pitcher... someone that makes more than Jose (which is why another team would get Jose - dump payroll).

I wouldn't be surprised if the Randy Johnson to the Yanks rumors start. But even if they come up with a deal... Johnson is a 10/5 player and can veto any trade he wants (even veto the Yanks). He says he wants to retire in Arizona.

Re: Mets/Yanks -- Round 1.

Thanks, OctGroom.

I've been having a rough couple of days, weeks, months, whatever.

But nothing makes me as happy as a Yankees Victory!

(I was kinda routing for you guys a bit this weekend though, I think you deserve a break)

Sure it 'could' happen ..........

but I'm REALLY hoping & expecting it NOT to happen

Though truth be told, I'm more interested in the Yankee/Red Suxx series than the Subway Series ... THESE games truly matter to us!!

GOOOO YANKS!!
