Did you buy furniture before you were in your house/condo?
I was just wondering...FH and I want to buy a bedroom set but our closing isn't supposed to be until August 1st. Should we order it and have it shipped to the house? Or should we wait? What do you think?
Thanks!!

Might be easier to wait til you are in the house so you don't have to deal with movers and being extra careful since it is new etc...I would wait.
We bought a new LR set in our apt but that was because we really needed one and we had no idea we would be buying a house within a year!

Unless its a huge sale... you should wait till you close... or at least have a closing date (and have your final numbers on what amount of checks you need to bring to the closing table).

I waited. I personally think it is a risk to order before you close. You never know what will happen - thing sget delayed ad fall thru and it is very common. Plus I know once you move in - you change your mind about things you want because when you actually start living there you get a different feel for the space.

Re: Did you buy furniture before you were in your house/condo?
I think you might want to wait. Aside from the fact that things can always fall through (though I hope it all goes smoothly for you!!! ) my friend who works for a mortgage company said that you want to avoid making any large purchases before you actually get it to the house. I guess this is only if you're buying on credit, because she said that she's seen people who were approved for a mortgage, and then they went out and bought a bunch of stuff and when the final checks on credit and all were done, they had a problem because now the people's credit was bigger. Anyway, that's just what she told me so we're not gonna get anything big before hand (we have stuff right now so it's not like we'd be sleeping on the floor or anything) but, I am just paranoid that any little thing could screw it up for us.

we got lucky - we ordered our furniture when we started the closing process.....and it worked out for us......mostly becuase the couches took forever to be delivered....had we waited, we probebly still wouldnt' have them!

We ordered b4 closing. We knew approx when closing would be and knew the furniture would take 8-12 weeks and they said they would hold it if needed. It worked perfectly. The stuff came in and was held for 2 weeks and then delivered to the new place the day before we actually moved in. Good luck
