Books for Soldiers: cool website, great cause!

This seems like a very cool organization -- check out the website below. The basic idea is to send care packages to soldiers stationed overseas or recuperating in hospitals. Soldiers write in and request books, DVDs, and/or CDs, and you can send the requests (or other kinds of care packages) to them. DH and I are going to do this sometime this week.

The message boards (which look sort of like the LIW boards!) are very interesting. Lots of notes from soldiers, including one vegetarian gal in the Air Force who's been eating nothing but garbanzo beans and rice for months and months! (Guess what... her request was for decent vegetarian food!) Some of the letters might make you cry, too... I know I did. There are some soldiers who just request letters because they never get any from home.

I know I should probably post this on the charity board or something, but this board gets lots more traffic.

Please check it out!

I just checked out this board and its great! My brother was over there and got back a few months ago.

He said the best thing I sent him was homemade stuff. He and all his buddies loved it! I made them pumpkin bread b/c he loves pumpkin pie (but you can't mail that )

After the first one I had to send like 3 at a time!

Great! I'm so glad to hear that people are getting involved! I've got a big pile of books right here, ready to go to the post office...

That's so cool. I love the pumpkin Spice Bread from Williams-Sonoma.

I'll help you bake some up for him! hehe
