Donating Clothes in NYC
Does anyone know of any shelters or anything that will pick up used clothing in the city? I remember in the suburbs all these drop locations in supermarket parking lots and stuff but there isn't anything like that in the city. In fact, a few places will even charge to pick up! I want to donate my old stuff, not pay to have someone take it!
I have a doorman so they can even pick up during the day, doesn't have to be after hours.

Re: Donating Clothes in NYC
I used to donate my things to the thrift shop run by Marble Collegiate Church, which funds the crisis hotline.
They are on third avenue between 27th & 28th. I don't think they pick up, but if you call them perhaps they have a volunteer that might pick stuff up.
One thing I really liked is all you had to do was put your name and mailing address in the bag and they would mail you a receipt for the value, for your tax returns. It was always for more than I expected it would be too.

Thank you Betty, that seems to be the best way to go. I would really appreciate the number.

Re: Donating Clothes in NYC
I'm not sure if they pick up, but if you have any work clothes, like suits, consider donating to Dress for Success. They provide interview and work clothing for women who are trying to get back on their feet.

Re: Donating Clothes in NYC
I second Dress for Success. We've also had luck with Housing Works, but the clothes have been an addition to furniture that we were also giving away (don't know if they would come buy just for clothes).
