Not meant to offend, but question about nail salons
Up front let me say that I do not want to offend anyone with this question but...Does anyone know if any nail salons near Babylon that have American nail techs?
I hate that I can never understand the technicians, they can't understand me, let alone have a conversation... plus, the whole Seinfeld - Elaine fear of they are sitting there talking about me the whole time.
TIA

Re: Not meant to offend, but question about nail salons
there is one in islip town, on the south side of montauk right across from Tellers. Also, try a hair salon/spa like Nouvelle or Racine, but they may be more $$$. (I go to asian salons, but my fiance (yes, he gets manicures) goes to the salons for the same reason that you said.

I don't know if this is too far but I used to go to one in West Islip. The manicurist's name was Patty the place is a hair salon (Kathy's haircorner) owned by her sister and Patty is the only manicurist there. It's on Udall Rd not far from Sunrise Hwy.

Re: Not meant to offend, but question about nail salons
i am a chronic nail biter - it is HORRIBLE. and i always hated going to any nail salon b/c they would all talk about me - and my short nails, and all the manicurists would come over to our desk and start laughing. it was so embarrassing. i cant help the fact that i am a nervous wreck!!
nevertheless.. i go to a lady now that is by herself and is an italian-american

Are you referring to the nail salon in front of Bloomingdales in the Walt Whitman Mall?
I'm pretty sure that the nail techs are mostly male, but they are Korean.
You might want to try a small hair salon. They tend to have americans doing manicures.
What about Ulta? (I don't know if you have one near you or not.)

Re: Not meant to offend, but question about nail salons
I go to Star Nails in Central Islip and although they are all Korean, the owner and a few of the woman speak English very well. The owner's name is Lena and she is a really good nail tech as well as a very nice, intelligent woman who likes to chat about a variety of things.I have been going to them for 5 years and used to always go to the previous owner's daughter who is young and hip and cool. They recently changed hands and I was devastated since the young daughter and I had become friendly through the years and exchanged birthday and XMas gifts. Thanfully the new people are just as nice and are running the business in the same manner as the previous owners.
Give them a try!
