NWR-FREAKING OUT about email-UPDATE!

OH MY GOD!!! THis friend/acquaintance of mine emailed me and in the email he was saying how he wants to hang out with me and f*%k all night! The horrible part is he sent it to me at work and it was intercepted by the computer department because they scan for curse words! I got an email saying that an email was sent to me containing profanity and that I should call the computer services. I left a message and they are going to call me back. DO you think I can get in trouble?????

So, I spoke to the computer guy and he said that a copy goes to human resources! I am mortified!!! But he said I won't get in trouble because I am the 'victim.'

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email

No, I doubt you will get in trouble. I think they will just suggest that you tell your friends not to use that language. You cannot control email that people send.

The real horrible part is that a 'friend' should not be sending you such an email period. I would have a talking to him.

I think if someone else sent it to you, you can't get in trouble. But they may block your friend from trying to send you more e-mail.

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email

I had something similar happen a few years ago. I was told that I probably didn't ask for that type of stuff (mine was actually pics) and just to tell people not to do it.

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email

this is sticky..I dont think so . There are laws about privacy at work..even if its your company computer. And its not like you were trading these sexy emails back and forth with him soyou shouldnt have to worry about that...only hting is the nosey computer department..people are human and gossip does thrive at work.

Thats what they did at my old job. They gave you (more like the email address it came from) one warning & if it happened again they blocked the address.

I would be mortified! But I doubt you'd get in trouble since you received it (it's not like YOUR sending out such e-mails. Right? kidding by the way!) I would see about blocking him from sending you e-mails at work and give him a talking to!

Even though you didn't curse... you can still get into trouble. The HR department is going to ask you... 'Well how did he get your work email address in the first place'.

You better be careful... companies don't mess around with stuff like that. I have profanity checking at my job here... but it just alerts me... nothing gets sent to HR.

What laws are this? Do you have a link?

Normally when you sign up for a job... its in your handbook that EVERYTHING you work on (phone/computer/etc.) is owned by the company and they can practically do what they want with it since they own it.

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email-UPDATE!

NO NO NO...

I am in HR...

If you get in ANY trouble WHATSOEVER, call a lawyer...

You CANNOT be held responsible for things that are sent to you...

(but, you can be held responsible for responding to it, downloading viruses, sending things out etc...)

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email-UPDATE!

I don't know the legality of that sort of thing but I would assume that you shouldn't be in trouble - you have no control over what people e-mail you. But in this day and age over lawsuits everyone wants a paper trail.

But nevermind work - omg this guy sent that to you? that's bizarre! did you know he felt like that?!?

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email-UPDATE!

Yeah, I am totally NOT emailing from work anymore! I new that he had the hots for me, but I didn't think he'd write anything graphic like that! I am not offended at all (it's actually a compliment!) but it is embarrassing that the computer dept. and HR are going to read it.

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email-UPDATE!

If you're engaged to someone else, it is totally inappropriate for him to be emailing you or even telling you that. At least that is my opinion.

Re: NWR-FREAKING OUT about email-UPDATE!

Why do these guys come out of the woodwork? I just don't get it. It's like they want to be rejected. jeesh.

I had something similar (but more tame and not intercepted) and told the guy to get lost and how pathetic it was that he bring it up right after I got married.

Really, guys are so stupid.
