Re: ADVICE PLEASE...renting in complex vs a house rental
I prefered renting in a complex as to a private home. One because the complex had its own amentities, i.e., pool, gym, that you didn't have to maintain and some of your utilities are included.A private house, usually you need to maintain the yard, etc. If the landlord has a service that does it, then you can bet that those costs are included in your rent. However, since you have a pooch, you might prefer the house for the extra room.

Re: ADVICE PLEASE...renting in complex vs a house rental
That really all depends. All utilities are paid for as well as landscaping and stuff. She even lets us use her pool and gave us our own driveway. They only advice I can giVe you is to go with your gut feeling. You'll make the right decision!!

Re: ADVICE PLEASE...renting in complex vs a house rental
We're renting in someones house. It is actually cheaper than a complex around here that accepts pets. Another plus is that we are looking for a house and hope to buy one this winter. In the house apartemtns we don't have to sign a 1 year lease while in the complex we would have to sign a 1 year lease, unless we wanted to pay much higher rent.

Re: ADVICE PLEASE...renting in complex vs a house rental
We are renting a house. I really like the privacy and that I dont have to listen to anyone else above or below me. We have tons of storage (basement, attic, and a 1 car garage) We do have to mow our own lawn, but I dont really mind. The landlord could care less what we do here. We painted, planted some flowers and bushes, and a mini garden.

I am also renting in a house. The first 2 years I was married, I lived in a complex and I am now paying LESS and saved MORE in a house. As a matter of fact, we are in process of getting a house..Finally!!.
Go with your 'gut'..I do kick myself cuz I didnt want to live in a 'house apt' when I got married, I wanted to be on my own..my own place. Now, when I think of the $$ I couldve saved I just
but everything happens for a reason!!
Good Luck to you!!

Re: ADVICE PLEASE...renting in complex vs a house rental
I live in a townhouse and apartment complex (my unit is a townhouse.) At first, I was reluctant to move here, because I thought people would be around all the time, in 'my' space, et cetera. And there is some element of that (see my recent post about my annoying neighbors) but DH and I live in an end unit, which makes a big difference. There's also a pool, and there's someone to do the mowing and snow shoveling -- those things are definitely pluses! We have a patio where I can keep my plants.I have also rented half of a house. The landlord was more intrusive in this situation (I wasn't allowed to have any pets, I wasn't allowed to have a large garden, et cetera.) Also, I was responsible for the lawn, the snow, and all of the utilities, including garbage pickup. It was nice to have half of a house to ourselves, though.
Still, I would love to OWN a house someday!

Re: ADVICE PLEASE...renting in complex vs a house rental
We rent an entire house and love it!!!! We pay utilities yes but it is so cheap. $40 for electric, $10 for water, and then your cable bill (which in a complex you would pay anyway). We also have a huge basement and attic. Our landlord takes care of our property (which is huge). I love it because you don't have to worry about the other tenants. We just pull up in the driveway and we are home. I also lived in a sort of complex and hated it. You always had to be quiet and I felt too restricted. To each is own
We also have our own washer/dryer
