How do you feel about smokers??

Just asking - no specific reason.

Well, my aunt died last year of lung cancer, so I try to convince everyone I know who smokes to quit. It is really a horrendous way to go and after watching someone die of it, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I think they are gross, the cigs not the people, I hate smelling it, I hate being around it (being prego especially), I hate when people lite up a cig around my child (yes, we are outside but there are small children around).

I'm an ex smoker. I think everyone has a right to do it (even though it could kill them!), but when it affects my air I get really annoyed!! I choose to not smoke, so i shouldn't have to breathe in yours. But i don't preach to people that they should stop.

However, my FIL is the worst kind of smoker. He smokes around you even when you ask him not to. He complains about his asthsma (sp?) and has to use a breathing machine sometimes, but yet he says its not the cigarettes that are doing it to him. His doctor says that he doesn't need to quit. BS!!! i have NEVER met a doctor that didn't tell me to quit (when i smoked just 5 a day)!!! So i take no pity on him, and will still not when he gets diagnosed with emphasema or worse!!! (he's a real a$$hole to begin with)

It's almost a year since I quit and about 8 months since FH quit. I never realized how disgusting it smells.

My new mission is to get my mom and sister to stop.

My FMIL has lung cancer, she had two spots on her lung removed, was supposed to go thru chemo, but stopped in the middle of it and she still smokes just as much as she did before they removed part of her lung. Can you say stubborn!! She's coughing just as much now too.

I hate smoking so much. I hate the way it smells, how much it costs, and I can't understand why people would purposely try to give themselves cancer. I broke up with guys before because they smoked! But guess what? I MARRIED A BIG SMOKER!



Go figure...we are dealing with it, and trying to figure out a compromise as to where he can smoke (and when he should quit!

HATE IT!! I grew up with both parents smoking, I tried it and hated it. My sister does it off and on. I have friends that do it. MIL does it. As long as it's not in my face or my air...to each his own. But I feel it's a disgusting habit.

There has been nothing better than being able to go to a bar thats smoke-free now.

I was in DC yesterday and it reminded me on how NASTY it is.

I have been DJing for 12 years... and in the last year working in a smoke-free bar is f'in awesome.

Bloomberg and Pataki get my votes next election for this reason alone.

That's how I feel. My father died of cancer from smoking...bladder, then lung, then bone. It is a horrible way to die and I don't wish it upon ANYONE! If you want that for yourself, fine, but don't let it effect me!

I have a neighbor, who I dislike for a few reasons, and he smokes cigars outside 2-3x a day for about 2 hours each time. The smoke blows in my windows. I want to say something to him but each time I think about what I would say I get so angry I could explode...I can't talk to him if I know I'm going to get that angry about it!!! I don't know what to do about it but the smell and the effects of the second hand smoke are killing me (possibly literally)!

I quit smoking a few years ago. When I was a smoker, I tried to smoke only in the privacy of my own home, and then only with other smokers. Why should my bad habit put others at risk? I used to think it was OK to smoke in bars... until I realized that the people who work there aren't necessarily smokers.

I'm surprised that people still do it with all the info there is out there about cancer and emphesema, etc...

My mother smokes and my brother and I wish she'd quit so she can see her granchildren grwo-up one day!

I used to but I quit.
But I don't feel it's my right to tell others to quit or not. I didn't like it when others told me to do it. i know they are only looking out for me but still..but DH doesn't and I don't like smoking in the apt and now we cant smoke in bars....so I figured what's the point? LOL

My grandmother(mom's side) died at 54 of lung cancer
My mother had a tumor in her lung (thankfully was removeable..didn't spread)
My Aunt died (mom's sister) at age 48 of lung cancer
My mom's other sister...found 1 tumor in her lung and 1 in her thoat this monday! (She went for a biopsy and we hear today the results) we pretty much know though...

Lung cancer is a nasty disease. Most people don't even know they have it since it shows hardy any symptoms until it has spread! And by then it is pretty much tooo late!
It is called the silent killer....

I really don't understand why anyone would CHOOSe to put themselves in that kind of harm. And it doesn't affect them only..To watch someone died of this is terrible!
So really i think smokers are just stupid...

I think it smells gross, and looks gross. I don't understand why people would voluntarily poison themselves. I don't preach to my friends to stop, but they all know I don't like it. I LOVE the smoke free bars now! There's nothing worse then getting home late at night and having your hair and clothing reak of smoke!

by the way, i'm not a huge fan of smoking either....

Well, NOBODY is a fan of smoking. It's gross! But some of us can't kick the addiction. I'm almost there. Now that I'm going to start TTC, I have no choice! Maybe you guys can be my support system. My DH is not handling my mood swings well (when I go through withdrawal.) I've been a smoker for 14 years. This is hard to say the least.

I hate smoking.

I grew up in a household of smokers and when i was a teenager and went to my friends houses, they would tell me i reeked of cig smoke. I hated that 'unclean' feeling of smelling like smoke and SWORE i would never marry a smoker. Well guess what - I did! LOL Guess you can't help who you fall in love with. My DH smoked in our apt but doesn't smoke in the house we just bought, thank God.

i smoke.....and yes i have tried to stop MANY times........but with my little girl it's making me feel really bad.....now rainemama will kill me, but she went back to smoking after a year not smiking..........dummy..but i love you anyway......

I hate Cigarett's they are gross they smell. I use to hate going to a bar or club and coming out smelling like smoke. Who wants to crawl up in bed smelling like that. I on the other hand expected it. I think the law is silly!
