For those who have black tie weddings to attend, cruises, or benefit dinners Maybe this will help you (sorry a little long)

My DH asked me to pass this info along to you all in hopes to save some of you a few dollars and aggrevation. We are taking the second part of our honeymoon in 20 days on a cruise and there are two formal nights. DH wanted to get all dressed up with me for this so that would mean renting a tux. As all of you know renting tuxes can really add up for our DH's - between the black tie weddings, etc that we find ourselves going to. Well we found a solution on cruisecritic and I thought I would pass along our little moneysaving hint/secret.

BUY a USED tux. Large chain stores want to get rid of their tuxes as the new styles come in. There is NOTHING wrong with these tuxes in fact they are the same ones you would pay to rent.

Well someone on cruisecritic mentioned that they saved a tremendous amount of money buying a used tux so DH decided to take a chance and check it out.

We went to After hours (other rental places do this but some charge more than others) They charge $100 to buy a used tux (included jacket and pants ONLY) BUT they have a deal for $129 - you get Tux, Shirt, Vest, Tie, AND SHOES!

The place cut dh a deal and for $8 more gave him a NEW shirt and NEW vest and tie.

As you know a rental would cost close to this - but you OWN the tux and have it forever if you chose.

His tux is in perfect condition and looks almost brand new, the shoes were peri ellis and looked like they have never been worn.

They allow you to chose the style (one button, 2 button etc) and you can refuse to accept the tux if it doesn't come in the condition you like.

Just thought that if you wear it ONCE or TWICE it has already paid for itself

Hope this helps someone else who is struggling right now like us.

FM me if you have any questions or ask me here

Great idea! I will spread the word--my FFIL has 2 weddings (ours and my FSIL!) and they are paying $149 to rent, so this is definitely a way to save!

that is another idea - but from what I heard they are not in as good condition plus they tend to be older styles - this is a complete tux set shoes and all which can add up if you only get the tux from a thrift shop
