My FI and I are thinking of going to Maui and Kaui for our honeymoon. Was wondering if anyone else was going and where they were staying etc? Thanks

Hi Michelle, I am in California, so I don't know if they operate from NY, but check out Suntrips. They have great packages to Hawaii and Mexico.

Any advice on Hawaii ??
We did Maui and Oahu and wished we would of changed Oahu with Kuai. We stayed the The Royal Lahaina in Maui and it was gorgeous :) You are truly going to the most beautiful place on earth. You guys will meet other honeymoon couples there and have tons of fun. Musts on Maui are Haleakala bikeride, Road to Hana, Helicopter ride and whale watching in season. Good Luck--it will be terrific! That is a horrible thing! I can't believe that some halls get away with that! My hall didn't tax the gratuity and they didn't tax the $150 maitre d' fee either.

Waimaea (sp?) Canyon was incredible in Kauai. I went to Kauai and Oahu with my family a few years ago. I agree with Emma, Kauai is much better than Oahu (less commercial). Go have brunch at Princeville, a gorgeous hotel on the north shore. And a nice little town to shop/hang out in is Hanalei. And just enjoy the scenery, it is sooooo beautiful and peaceful there. I'd love to go back, but don't have the money lol. That is a horrible thing! I can't believe that some halls get away with that! My hall didn't tax the gratuity and they didn't tax the $150 maitre d' fee either.

Any advice on Hawaii ??
I actually just called a Liberty Travel agent for quotes for both Maui and Kauai. We had heard from many people that the Hyatt Kauai and Four Seasons in Maui were two of the top hotels. I am not sure that they are in our budget but what if you do not mind a garden view as opposed to ocean view, there is a huge difference in price. Definately stop by a travel agent and grab a brochure and then search the web for good deals. I like Lowest fare.com. Good luck and be prepared to spend a bundle. Meanwhile, she was so funny, with her big blue hair!

New Hawaii idea for you Michelle...
Hey Cley, you just gave me an idea. Lowestfare.com has some good fares right now for cross-country flights. The airlines are having a little fare war right now. It might be possible for you LI brides to book flights to the West Coast and then hop onto a SunTrips flight to Hawaii. This may be cheaper (tho' I don't know) than actually flying direct. I actually live in SF, so I've been to Hawaii several times. I have never found lower air/hotel deals than on SunTrips. Pleasant Hawaiian is another option, but they tend to be about $200 more per flight. Anyway, hope this helps.

New Hawaii idea for you Michelle...
I just got back a 2 weeks ago from a three week honeymoon in Hawaii... My recommendation would be to try to go to the big island. The resorts are fantastic (we stayed at the four seasons which is out of this world) and the weather was perfect. I also was on Maui, Kauai and Lanai ... each island for 5 days. Kauai is pretty but it rained all the time. on and off all day. Maybe August is just a bad time to go there... i'm not sure. Lanai was beautiful but there's nothing to do... not even 1 local bar. Maui was a blast... definitely the most to do there... I would go back in a minute. But the big island was so gorgeous... just the right mix of action (a few bars or restaurants) and great resorts that I thought it was the best. I felt totally secluded there even though I was only 15 minutes from a real town. Good luck. I just got the Lillian Vernon catalog and there were some interesting favor ideas - particularly for the winter holiday season, but some were non-seasonal and the prices were good.

New Hawaii idea for you Michelle...
P.S. I stayed at the Princeville in Kauai... supposedly the best hotel on the island... like I said it rained... that hotel is on the rainy part of the island... so beware. I would never stay there again... plus there were a zillion families with kids there. On Maui I stayed at the four seasons which was fantastic.
