ThongLori's helpful dress shopping tips

I noticed a lot of new brides on here and a bunch of dress shopping questions popping up. Thought I could share some tips with you guys, and perhaps the 'old skool' brides can add on... (I cannot believe I am old skool on here already LOL)

-- Yes, many dress places require appointments. Definitely call ahead.

-- Weekends are the most crowded, so if you can, try swing by on a weekday or night.

-- Wear underwear with some coverage. Those sales ladies get all up in your business while helping to dress you! This is the one time ThongLori will not advocate a thong.

-- Bring a hair clip or something to pin up your hair (if you're wearing your hair up) to try and get 'the full effect'

-- Bring a camera, some places will allow photos.

-- Do not bring more than 2 people shopping with you!! It's too much of an entourage and can get overwhelming. Most times I would suggest bringing only 1 person.

-- Shop alone. Go back and retry on the ones you saw went you went shopping with mom. It's the only time where you can look at the dresses with a clear head!

-- Bring a small notepad to jot down styles and designers you like. The dress place usually will write out a card of what you like before you leave, but better to be prepared!

-- GO WITH AN OPEN MIND!! 9 times out of 10 you'll end up with the dress that is most opposite of what you thought you'd like! Don't say 'no' til you try it on This is probably the best piece of advice I can give!

Hope this helps, old skoolers please add on...

Re: ThongLori's helpful dress shopping tips

I agree with the underwear advice.....so not the time to show off your new handmade thong!!!!

i would also add that you don't necessarily have to lose all of the weight you want to before going to try the dresses on. if you are looking to lose weight before the big day, i would advocate losing some....trying on dresses, and after you ahev found your dream gown, work on the rest of the weight....but don't try to get to your goal before you try on.....lord knows if i had, i never would have gotten a dress, becasue i never reached my goal weight!!!

and if you never reach your goal weight.....one word...CORSET...it's a miracle worker

One time I went to try on dresses---I was thinking I was so smart for wearing a stapless bra, so it would be easier to see how the dresses would look. Well fine, but did I give anything thought to the bottom under-garment? NO! I had on a thong, and it was embarrassing. Luckily, they were pretty good and left my mom to help me put the dresses on.

Ohmigod I can not stress this one enough!!!! I have heard it a million times but didnt listen. I went to 3 or 4 stores looking for a specific kind of dress. When they would ask me what I was looking for I had a list of things I DIDN'T want. Well at my last dress store the lady brought out a dress that was the description of everything on my ' do not want' list. She practically had to beg me to try it on b/c she ' had a feeling about it' Well by now im sure you guessed it... my ' do not want' dress turned out to be the one!!!
