Finished Time Travelers Wife - my opinions

Ok, my feelings about it.

I heard a few ppl tell me it was hard to follow or understand what it was about. I was prepared to have to ‘think’ about it. Then I started reading it. It’s pretty obvious to me what it’s about and very easy to follow.

Without giving away too much, it’s a story Time Traveler’s Wife. The story of a guy and a girl and the guy is a time traveler. With that much information I thought it was pretty easy to follow the story, I mean you know the main female character is his wife since the title of the book says wife, not mistress.

That being said, the book itself was entertaining at first and then got dark and gloomy for me about half way in. I was so wrapped up in the humor and spontaneous things happening I actually forgot the book does have to end. I almost feel like the author remembers that at around the same time. Foreshadowing is very light but if you’re looking for it, you’ll see it.

Personally I felt a bit gipped that she felt some NEED to explain what they did on 9/11. The she NEVER mentions it again, like it was no big deal. Honestly that sorta ticked me off. Unnecessary to the story and very dry. Twenty years from now anyone who read this will say “what was that for?” heck I said it NOW!

Loved the wedding date! LOL

The ending was pretty flat. You knew what would happen. I felt like there could have been more story to tell through the years but the author sorta gave up. Like she couldn’t think of anything else to add, which I can’t believe when you figure in the whole first part of the book.

I’m not sure I’d recommend it highly, but I’d recommend it to those who I know are willing to step off into the unreal for a bit and enter the world of the possible. You’d have to be willing to believe in fairy tales again to some degree.

Total days to read (on the train mostly): 3 and a half days

If you’ve read it, I REALLY must say I liked the Book Club question in the back. Folks take these things so seriously!!

I LOVED this book!

Remind me about the 9/11 part and the wedding date though.

Re: Finished Time Travelers Wife - my opinions

They get married on my date!!
October 23rd
of 1993! LOL

The 9/11 thing:

Basically it feels like that date was thrown in…
Here’s what it was: (shorted – actually it was only a page long to begin with)

Henry and Clare are home,
Clare is half asleep (its from her view point) Henry was up since 6:30ish Chicago time.

She is awoken by Henry telling her she has to wake up to see this….

On the TV she sees tall buildings and an airplane crashing into it like a toy model and the announcer saying “oh my god, oh my god”.

……………….
That’s it. That’s all she had to say (the author) It felt so forced, so fake so completely foreign to the book. Its not like they reference it again anyway so it has no real meaning to the passage, ya know? It’s not necessary for the movement of the story line.

Re: Finished Time Travelers Wife - my opinions

Ok- I remember now.

I also remember thinking it was odd.

I still loved this book so much.
The ending was kind of a dissappoinment because it was so sad, I was also so into it I was sorry to see it end.

Re: Finished Time Travelers Wife - my opinions

I read it over my vacation and I had many of the same opinions... I was really upset with the way they addressed 9/11...kind of like she stuck it in there after the fact.

The end made me cry... I was sitting by the pool reading the book with tears running down my eyes... but that's me

I agree too about the 9-11 day, no need for that, but I though the book was great!
