Is there anyone that is wiping out their savings completely in order to own instead of rent?

If not How much do you think is a good amount to leave in savings for "rainy days?"

We have talked about this numerous times...and decided we are going to rent for six months to a year max and they buy a house. This way we can save more and clear up as much of my student loans and credit card stuff as possible.


Good Luck if anyone is doing this. I am jealous! I want a house so much!

We haven't decided yet. We are just saving. Of course we both want a home right away but I am against wiping our savings out. I am a coward like that. So, we may also wait until January 2006 to buy rather than September 2005. Not sure yet though. Maybe funds will be better next year at this time. It is hard to tell!

we are putting a downpayment on a condo after our wedding, it will be from our savings.
