Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

Other than Lane Bryant? I really don't like their stuff. They don't have work clothes (or at least what I can wear - we are not 'business casual' so I cannot wear khakis or twills)

Tweeds are very 'in' this year and so is argyle. I like both! But LB doesn't have either. Where else can I go?

I don't really like H&M - a few outfits ripped the first time I wore each - I do'nt think their clothing is made very well.

Thanks in advance
Mary

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

Dress Barn!! Yes they are good! I have to find out where there is a DB Woman. Sears and Kohls are good for non-work but I don't work in a 'business casual' environment. I've been kinda getting away with it this summer but I really don't feel stylish.

I also need to go to Woodbury Commons.

I just want something that is in style NOW - seems that alot of the plus sized stores are a season behind half the time.

Anyone have other suggestions?

I was even thinking of Talbot Woman - I want some really nice outfits for work. Sick of dressing down because half my outfits odn't fit.

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

My favorite clothes comes from Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor. They have stuff that is good quality, and fashionable, a hard combo to come by in plus size however, they're a bit pricey. I also buy some stuff at Talbot's, Elizabeth, and Macy's.
For casual, I shop at the above places and avenue (which I usually hate), Lane Bryant, Ashley Stewart (a lot of their stuff isn't my taste, but they usually have whatever is hot at the moment, but not really for work) Fashion Bug (they carry cute stuff, but I'm not thrilled with the quality) Sears (the Land's end brand has some nice things), and Kohls.

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

I shop at Lane Bryant, Ave, Kohls & macys. I am getting a little bored with these stores.

I am looking for a dress for a wedding. Where would the best place for me to go?

I found two really nice outfits at Lord & Taylors. I think they were a 20. And they are having a sale now I believe.

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

I just recently purchased a bunch of casual stuff for the honeymoon from Old Navy.

I used to buy suits and dressy clothes from August Max Woman, but I went there the other day and they don't carry the same sizes. The saleperson told me that it changed in January and they only go up to a size 18 or 20. (This is in Chicago)

If you can find a Dana Buchman outlet, they have some nice dressy stuff in plus sizes. I got a gorgeous silk suit on clearance for $250 when normal price was $700.

I have found some nice dresses for weddings out at Estelles. Sometimes they actually have cool, plus size dresses. They also sell plus size regulaer clothes now too. I found a few nice outfits out there.

I think I will go to Macy's this weekend.

Sometimes I don't like buying expensive clothes for work in plus size because in my mind 'I'll be losing the weight' and feel it's a waste. But I haven't lost and even if I do, I will just get them tailored. I would rather get something that looks fashionable than something that just 'fits'. Thanks ladies!

ps: I never have luck with August Max or Avenue. Their stuff just never seems to fit me right. I do like Lane Bryant jeans though and their turtlenecks, when they have them.

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

I just found this thread. I'm usually pretty succesful at Avenue and Lane Bryant. Although sometimes the stuff is either too trendy and not realistic for real plus size woman, or not trendy enough. There jeans are a good fit.

I just got a great dress for a wedding at Macy's Roosevelt Field -- their woman's department is huge and they had a large area in there dressy dress department for woman's sizes also.

I noticed that Old Navy online now carries plus size -- does anyone know how well they fit? Sometimes some stores are more like plus size light -- not true plus size cuts.

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

I have the same problem. However, I have found that if I get a really GREAT pair of black pants, you can dress them up in many ways. This year, those black pants are from Lane Bryant. I bought 3 pair of the same pants. I am loving them!

I went to Roosevelt Field too. I love INC, they made alot of nice things. Charter Club too. I bought some tops.

I find Lane Bryant is good for casual stuff but not work. Or it doesn't fit me right. I haven't been to Avenue in awhile but I got a coupon this week and with tax free week, I might go today.

I went to the only Old Navy near me (in the Bronx) that has plus sized. I wasn't impressed with the pants. Some of the tops were nice but I wasn't looking for long sleeves at the time.

Re: Plus sized women - where do you shop for work clothes

I need to check out some of the stores now for honeymoon stuff. We're going to Aruba for 13 days in November, and I'm afraid if I wait, I'll have trouble finding shorts and t-shirts, etc.

DH and I stopped at Aruba on our cruise and we both loved the island, we definitely want to go back.

I got a few capri pants from Old Navy for the honeymoon. I like the way they fit and they might be on sale/clearance now. They had shorts also, I don't do shorts so i don't know how they fit.
