QOTD: What do you remember about your first day of school?

I remember the pep talk my mother gave me on the way to nursery school....even the light we were stopped at when she talked to me, the side streets to get to the back parking lot, etc. I remember a lot of things very clearly from when I was young. My first memory is at 18 months old (which shocked my phych. prof. in college)!

I remember standing at the bus stop thinking, ' I am only four and a half, and I am going to Kindergarten' I remember looking out the bus window and waving to my mom who was pregnant at the time. I remember some of the kids in my class were crying and I was telling them there was nothing to be sad about, school is fun...ahhh how times change

I don't remember my first day of nursery school. (I remember a few other things from that time period, but not my school debut!) As for the first day of kindergarten, I remember waiting for the bus on a crisp fall day. My mom brought my baby sister along in a stroller. I had pigtails! I was very nervous, mostly because... I had never been on a bus before! The memory that's strongest about my first day of kindergarten is the smell of the school hallways and classrooms -- kind of a sweet, milky smell.

I remember my first day of 1st grade:

I remember the bus not coming to get me!!!
My mother had to call my dad who worked down the street, because he had the car, and he took his 'lunch hour' (he worked 3am-11am) to take me and my mom to school.

It was very traumatic - not only the bus forgetting me but my parents coming into the class with me. I kept thinking 'go home you're embarassing me!'

It also happened to my sister on her 1st day. Isn't that bizarre? Considering my dad worked part time for the same bus company...hellooo!
And the prinipal skipped with her to the classroom. My sister thgught 'um...I don't skip lady but you do whatever you want'.

I don't remember my first day of kindergarten, but I remember my first day of 2nd grade when I moved down to Delaware.

I started school right after Christmas break.
I thought this little girl was a boy and I accidently called her 'him' and the kid sitting next to me told her and she told me she was going to beat me up.

Luckily they moved me into a different class the next week so I didn't have to sit with her.

I swear, at my 10 year HS reunion she was still giving me dirty looks!!

I don't remember either, but I do remember being afraid to walk by the Junior High School everyday because it was their lunch period and they were all outside.

Oh my gosh! I was so petrified my first day of JH. It was our first time with lockers, and I made myself memorize my combo, so much so that i still remember it to this day 8-10-36, how sad is that?

My little brother ruined it by being born! Just kidding.....

As a 5 yr old you can image how disappointed I was. My mom took me to school. Right before she left she told me that she would pick me up and take me to McD's for happy meal so I can tell her all about my day. Well at the end of the day, my grandfather picks me up. When I ask where's Mommy, he said she in the hospital having the baby, isn't that great?. I said why couldn't he wait til tomorrow to come out!

i remember that i was terrified....wouldnt' talk to anyone because i was so shy and i cried....

and then about a week or so into school, i got so anxious that i threw up every day and went home every day.......

who knew i'd learn to love school so much!?

me either!! kindergarden is a total blur, as is most of 1/2nd grades (I'm old, what can I say )

All i do remember is always being PAINFULLY SHY the first few months of those school years from kindergarden-2nd grade. It always took me quite awhile before I would open up and would feel confident enough to talk to the other kids... I got over that REALLY fast once I hit my pre-teens, though

I can't remember if it was my very first day of Kindegarten or not, but I remember being scared that no one would want to play with me I went to Nursery School but don't remember it.
