Photography clauses on ordering albums

I haven't ordered my album yet - and our wedding was in March. Besides adjustments and life's everyday tramas, my aunt died in june and its just hard dealing with the photos b/c she's in them.

I finally scheduled an appointment and saw a little slip the studio gave me when i picked up the proofs. It says if we don't go in within 60 days from picking up the proofs, then they can charge is 'then prevaling rates + a 18% service fee!' That would be over $400!

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. I understand how difficult it can be.

When you go in for your appointment, simply explain your situation. Start off by apologizing for taking so long, and then go on with what has happened. I would hope they are sympathetic to your situation. It's not like you just took your time out of laziness.

Hang in there and be strong. Let us know how the photographer works out for you.

That's absolutely ridiculous! I've heard of attempting to levy penalties for waiting too long, and of course if prices go up you need to cover rising costs, but 60 days? 18% penalty? That's absolutely absurd!

Most of my customers wait an average of six months to a year before even starting the process of designing an album. If a contract includes an album (not all of mine do-most of my customers do photography first and then order the album(s) whenever they are ready) then I hold the pricing in the contract for a year or so. I've actually had customers come back five to eight years after their wedding expecting me to hold to pricing that wouldn't come close to covering my cost. That's absurd in the other direction.

Loss

It was very unsettling. Our wedding was Saturday March 25th and she died on Saturday, June 24th. We had a small affair of 80 folks & she was also at our rehersal dinner, so we spent some time together during our last visit.

She and my uncle had just retired, sold their home in Ft Lauderdale and were driving to CA to be near their sons....when their Firestone tire blew on their Ford Explorer. (This happened 2 weeks before the news of the defective tires hit the airwaves). She died on site, my uncle escaped with a punctured lung and a slight concussion. They decided to bury her in FL...but it was postponed 9 days until my uncle was released and arrived via train (can't fly w/a punctured lung)

Karen, I'm really sorry for your loss. I think you should definitely look back with a smile when you think about the great time she had at your wedding and that you got to share your day with her. I'm sure she's with you at this hard time!

Loss

Karen,

You are absolutely right. I think many people lose sight of what weddings are supposed to be by getting caught up in trying to put on a great show.

My goal for my wedding as always been for something simple yet elegant that won't break the bank. I want my special day to be spent sharing the happiest day of my life with the dearest people in my life.
