UPDATED New kitten in the house...

So we got our curren cat Samhain a year ago...and she has been our only cat. This week, we just brought home a littel gray kitten (also female) and we are trying to figure out ways to introduce them peacefully. Samhain has seen the kitten and just hissed and ran away...thankfully no attacking.

Any suggestions on having two female cats like eachother???

Re: New kitten in the house...

No advice, just a question. Did you call your cat Samhain after the Irish for halloween?

Also, I am hoping to get a second cat tomorrow from a shelter, so I'd appreicate this advice also

The hissing should just happen in the beginning. The older cat is probably just letting the kitten know that she is the dominant one. It might take a while, but they should work it out.

My family cats did this when the younger one was introduced. In fact the older one used to chase the younger one until he was up on a table and then the older would look up at him and hiss to put him in his place.

Re: New kitten in the house...

well..so far so good...

they both like to chase eachother around the house...but since Samhain is a big-ol-fat-cat next to the little kitten, there is no real danger. they seem to be playing rather than out for blood..and the baby (Bobble is her name, since she does this weird bobble thing with her head) likes to provoke Samhain now...it's just funny to watch!

They should be ok.

OH..and in reply to the question about the name 'Samhain' ..yes...she is named for the Pagan feast of the dead...the Gailic word Samhain, translats to 'the summer's end' or coloquially known as Halloween.
She is all black...and has gold eyes!
