If I switch formula, do I need to ask doctor?

I'm thinking of taking some of your advice and trying Isomil Advance Soy formula, since Matthew seems very gassy/fussy. Is it safe to switch formula's without getting the pediatrician's ok? Should I call and ask them first? Thanks

Re: If I switch formula, do I need to ask doctor?

I would definitely ask your MD what he or she thinks prior to making a switch. I recently found out that my son's formula was covered by my insurance company because it was medically necessary to due his allergies and colic. Had I just switch the formula on my own without the proper documentation of his condition and reactions to different formulas I would not have be able to prove that his formula is medically necessary. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Re: If I switch formula, do I need to ask doctor?

I have just switched from Similac Advance to similac Isomil due to my daughter being colic. It has helped a little bit. Be sure to talk to yur pedetrician first. He told me not to switch until she was one one formula for at least a week. Also he had me increase the amount of Mylecon drops (they help relieve the gas) to more tham the directions indicate. So far we have made some progess. She is not crying from one feeding into the next.

Ask for your doctor's advice before switching. Good luck!
