Has anyone ever been?
I would love some hotel recommendations if anyone has ever been or knows anyone who has.

I got these from my "boyfriend" Rick Steves... I LOVE his books. I can't say enough about them. FH and I were supposed to go to Italy this Nov, but decided to save for the wedding instead. Have a good trip.

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy
Thank you for those recommendations! I am searching online to try to find something but it's quite hard to tell (everything looks better on the internet!).
I'll have to go buy a good book on the area and do some research that way too!
Thanks again!

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy
We stayed at the Hotel Poseidon in Positano based on a friend's recommendation who had stayed there the year before. It was awesome! Great location and for the price you can't beat it. We got a junior suite looking right onto the bay and the service was good and the family that runs it was so friendly!
Then we went to Ravello and stayed at Palazzo Sasso. That place is heaven on earth. It is a little more money, but it is pure heaven and they pamper you beyond belief! It is also the highest point on the Coast and the place is stunning. Not much to do there, but good for a few days.
If you have any questions, let me know!

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy
My mom just went last month. She stayed in Rome but visited the Amalfi Coast on a day trip and said it was one of the most beautiful places she has ever seen!
Good luck!

I don't have hotel suggestions, but just wanted to say excellent choice!! My family lives in Sorrento which is part of the coast. I have spent many summers in that area and go back every chance I get. You will fall in love with the beauty of the amalfi coast.
Good luck!

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy
Thank you ladies for all your suggestions! I am getting very excited about planning this!
We are planning on going to Rome for about 4 days and then driving down (thats if the drive isn't too bad) to Positano for about 6 or 7 days. I looked at all the recommended hotels and they all look spectacular - the coast is just gorgeous. I hear that Pompeii is nearby as well - thats a place I'd love to visit too!

I did a day trip one time from Pompeii to Rome by train. It was not that bad at all. Another time I took a bus from Rome to Naples. It was really nice to see the country side of Rome. Pompeii is not far from amalfi coast.
I am so excited for you!! LOL
By the way, the pic in my avatar was at a beach in Sorrento two summers ago.

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy
We visited last November and it was a wonderful trip. We visted Naples and Pompeii as well as the Amalfi Coast. We stayed in the town of Amalfi at a charming hotel call Hotel Lidomare - the prices were very reasonable here - it's owned by this family and the rooms are very spacious and we had a balcony. If you're going for your honeymoon - you probably want more luxury than this place. The towns of Ravello and Positano are really beautiful and would be good places to stay as well. Sorrento is a bigger city and wasn't as charming as the smaller towns. Capri is supposed to be lovely too. Since you will have a car, it will give you the freedom to see the towns at your leisure but you will need to find out if there is parking for your car when you book a hotel. Also the the driving is a bit treacherous - small winding roads that are too narrow in some places for buses and cars to pass at the same time. If you are driving in the late afternoon - evening into the Amalfi Coast area - stick to the main highway even if it looks like the longer route- we took what looked like more of a direct route but ended up driving through the mountains and towns and on small winding roads (of course getting lost too) which took us much longer to reach our destination.
Hope this was helpful.

Re: Amalfi Coast, Italy
Has anyone ever stayed at Marincanto in Positano? We are trying to book but they only do it through Email or fax? Is that weird? My FH does not feel so comfortable with this.
