I hate making the guest list!!! (vent)

We first started out thinking this whole thing would be easy, 100 people no problem. Then my father wanted to invite like everyone he knows in the family, people I never talk to. Which equaled to over 50 people. Pretty much, with his family and FH's family, FH and I couldn't eat!

All this, if you invite so and so you have to invite their 3rd cousin twice removed nonsense is driving me nuts. Ok, I am exagerating but....

So I still don't have a guest list together. My father backed off at first and said I can invite my friends and we don't have to invite all these people. But then later said he wants to see the list before I send out invites.

Has this happened to any of you?

Is your father paying for the wedding? If so, then I can see why he wants to invite everyone. But I think you should sit down and talk with him and let him know your not looking to have such a big affair. You want something with a more intimate surrounding with close family and friends.

See if we could have more people I would. He is paying (for food only), but does NOT want me to go over 100 people. So that leaves me in this little predicament. Esp. because FMIL made a comment about how 'if your father can have friends at the wedding then (FFIL) will be upset if he can't have friends at the wedding' What?! And no, they are not paying for any of the wedding except a rehersal BBQ. I am paying equal to that of my father.

My parents are paying for the food and so they want to invite whom ever they choose and limit my freinds and his family. My FMIL and FFL are paying for the rehearsal dinner only. But still, how can you have a weddign and invite only the bride's family!!!!??? My parents were having a fit when the guest list went over 150, when 125 of them were my mom'd family!

Just wait til you ahve to deal with the response crds and the table arrangements.

i have to tell you that one of my biggest problems was the stupid guest list. i know its tough. and i have to be honest and tell you that it really doesnt get easier. someone is ALWAYS going to have something to say about everything... no matter what you do.

just do what makes you both happy.. compromise, but not wo much... do waht feels right.

FH and I are putting the guest list off for as long as possible. We made one, but we have way too many people and I'm just awful at taking people off. I don't want to insult anyone. Besides me not wanting to hurt anyones feelings both of our families have a few people that they want to invite that we don't actually know. Luckly they each only have a few so it isn't too bad.
