Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
Anyone have any experience with using the fetal heart rate to determine sex of baby before the baby is born? We saw a FHR of 140 at 13 1/2 weeks - doctor was joking and said "it's a boy!" (which is what I am secretly hoping for!) I think I read if it's a slower FHR than it's a boy, faster than it's a girl????

Re: Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
Old Wives Tales I tell ya.
Girls are supposed to be over 140 Boys are supposed to be under 140
Emmas heart rate was consistantly between 130-140 This babys HR is consistantly between 140-150 and everyone is saying its a boy (although no one knows for sure)
Its a fun way to guess though.

Re: Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
Wow I never knew anything about this.. maybe thats why all of my relatives keep asking about the fetal heart rate!!! I've had about 5 sonograms so far and not one doctor has mentioned the fetal heart rate! Does it say it on the monitor?

Yes the sonogram should say it. The doc can also get it from the doppler....

Re: Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
It means nothing - at my last appointment my baby's heartrate was 129 which points to boy but I am having a girl.
It is fun to try and use it to guess though - I had better luck with the chinese birth chart.

Re: Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
Definitely an old wives tale!!
I asked my Dr. If this was true because I heard the same tale. My husband even tried to get it out of the nurse when I left the room to go to the bathroom.. He said "you can tell me, I wont say anything".. LOL the nurse said there is no way to tell until your 18 -22 week sonogram (if your lucky).

Re: Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
it slows down toward the end of your pregnancy but my dr. and others say its bull.
FOr e.g. they say girls are high 150-160's or even 170's and boys are low 140 and 150's
My daughter was always low 140's and 138 and she was not a boy

Re: Fetal Heart Rate/Sex of Baby
I had a boy and his heartbeat was always high, 160+. Therefore I don't buy into this OWT!
