Registering for everyday dishes
As a guest (not a bride
) would you think $19 a plate is expensive for an everyday plate? Please be honest, because I think it might be too much and I dont want to look greedy or anything.

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
IMO I think that it is too much for just one plate. You probably won't get all the pieces and then you'll end up buying them all yourself.Think about it - will someone want to come to a shower with a plate or too? JMO

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
Hmm...for just the plate, that's prob slightly higher than average. I don't think it seems greedy though!Wouldn't most people buy it in the setting anyway?

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
Am I better off getting china? I figured that would be more expensive?

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
Hmm..actually some every day dishes can be expensive, and some formal china can be relatively inexpensive. We actually registered for both (speaking of greedy
). Our everyday is $29.99 for a setting (the dinner plate alone is $13) and our formal china setting is $89.00. We actually got all our China
and got half of our everyday settings so far. If you are just going to register for one type, I would go for what you and your FH like best and will use most. If you don't get all of it, you can usually buy it for 10% off or so after your wedding.

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
I don't think you're being greedy at all. Register for them if you want it! The only thing I've noticed is that people don't always like to give a gift like 1 plate or 1 or two champagne glasses so you might not get all the pieces of an everyday dish set.We registered for both china and everyday dishes and they cost about the same! Our china pattern was Miaksa and cost abut $37 a place setting and our everyday dishes were Noritake and cost $34. Go figure!

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
I think it depends on what everyone else in your family does. It's customary for the brides in my family to register for both china and everyday. You might put some people off if their not used to this practice. IMHO I don't think it's too much $$$.If you're not registering for fancy china I would say go for it! $19.00 is not too much at all!
What pattern were you considering?

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
I honestly don't think it's too much. My Lenox fine china was something like $120 per place setting and my casual Pfaltzgraff was about $15.00 per plate. Register for whatever you deep down in your heart want!My guess is someone wouldn't just buy you one plate, no. They'd buy you the plate, the salad plate, etc. to make up a plate setting.

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
I don't think it's too bad...and it's what you like so why not put it on your registry. No one is going to think you are greedy. When my cousin got married, they had mikasa dishes for everyday in the $40 range per place setting and Royal Doultan in the $150 range for fine china. They got more if not all of their casual dishes and maybe 2 china place settings.

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
Fh and I really favor a contemporary look and we've really been looking forward to registering for one thing: square plates!!! I know its ridiculous, but we love the look of square plates and he works across the street from bloomingdales in the city. He pointed the line out to me and I fell in love with it. I dont think its a brand, though. Its a bloomingdales lexclusive line. I went today on my lunch break and looked to see how much the plate was. $19 for the regular size and $12 for the salad plate. I didnt see how much the bowl or B&B dish were.

The china would probably be more expensive. But, I think guests would be much more likely to spend $19 on a fine china plate than an a casual plate.

Re: Registering for everyday dishes
FH and I are both into contemporary and we decided to bypass the formal china completely because we know deep down we'll never use it so we opted for casual china at $40 a place setting. And we got a square plate in there too! Lookie!I say you pick what you want. Most guests expect you to pick dishes so I wouldn't worry about it.
