Postage and invitations: need help

I have a few questions for those brides that have already sent out invitations. I am interested in getting custom made invitations and am trying to figure out what size invitation to go with.

1. I notice that square invitations cost more in postage (many of the wedding stationary books I flip through have said this). On average, how much postage is required on them?

2. I have received standard 5 1/2 inch by 7 1/2 inch wedding invitations in the mail before and they had a 60 cent stamp on them. Are there any size invitations (with the usual inserts) that could be mailed for 37 cents?

3. The Postal Service has issued a stamp of the USS Constellation and I thought they would look great on my invitations since I am doing a nautical theme. But I am worried that because it is a 37 cent stamp, I will have to add an additional stamp besides it to my invitation. Would it look tacky to put more than one stamp on an invite (versus using a different stamp (non-nautical) that costs the exact amount of postage)? I am guessing it is, but I would like to try to use them.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Postage and invitations: need help

Post Office would be able to answer your questions regarding the postage requirements for larger envelopes.

To use a 37 cent envelope it must weigh one ounce or less...so that would limit the enclosures you could send.

If you want to pay a little more to have the two stamps you want like on the envelope, then go ahead. It is certainly not tacky..they are just stamps.

Re: Postage and invitations: need help

My invites were in a regular sized envelope (A10) and postage was 60 cents becasue it was heavier than an ounce. I think for oversized envelopes it's still 60 cents.
I don't thin it matetrs if you have more than one stamp on the envelope...

Re: Postage and invitations: need help

Square invites only cost more when they are less than an ounce. If you are paying the 60 cents anyway more a heavier than 1 ounce mailing, the shape no longer matters.
