November 6th Timber Point Review with pics
Timber Point: A-I chose Timber Point because I wanted a reception with only one wedding at a time, with a 100 person minimum, on the water of the south shore in Suffolk. I wanted to have our ceremony at the reception hall, so I wanted somewhere that was also beautiful outside for the reception. Timber Point was all of that, and had just been renovated and it is beautiful. I wanted understated elegance, and that is exactly what the Timber Point Mansion is. I wanted an outdoor ceremony on the patio overlooking the water, and luckily the weather was beautiful and I was able to have that.
I didn’t have too much contact with Timber Point throughout the planning process. I booked with Lenore, who was pleasant enough, but did lose our file once. I had requested the Maitre D’ Steve when we booked (Steve covers all of the Lessing’s locations). They said they would do everything they could to get Steve. I kept asking whether I had Steve, and up until the day before they said they didn’t know, that he goes to the largest wedding at any Lessing’s location. It turned out I did not get Steve, but then saw Steve upstairs in Timber Pojnt that afternoon.
I love Timber Point, but I thought my maitre d’ could have ran a tighter ship. It seemed like we spent too much time upstairs waiting for entrances, etc. I would rather have been downstairs enjoying my wedding. They did bring up food and drinks, but still….
The food was delicious. When I asked for a different mahi mahi for the menu, they substituted one from the menu for the Bourne Mansion. Service was excellent—all 100 guests were served within 10 minutes of one another! I added the chocolate fountain a week beforehand and was sooo glad I did. It was such a hit, and made the whole hall smell like chocolate! DEFINITELY A MUST HAVE! They decorated just as I had asked, and everything was stunning. One minor thing—the stall lock in the bridal suite didn’t work.
Maitre D’: Isiah--B As I mentioned, I thought he could have ran a tighter ship. A couple things happened (minor), that I thought could have been avoided. They had me throw the bouquet, but the photographers weren’t there, so then I had to throw it a second time! Minor details though…
Officiant: Reverend Renwick Jackson--A+
http:www.renwickjackson.com (631) 286-7955
This man is AMAZING. People are still commenting on how touching and moving the ceremony was. He is an interfaith minister (my DH is Catholic and I am Protestant, and he worked with us to create a ceremony that included just what we wanted). I can’t say enough good things. We met with him 3 times prior to the ceremony to discuss marriage and our ceremony. I felt like I was prepared for marriage, not just the wedding after meeting with him! $300 for ceremony
Dermatologist: Neil Bellet, M.D.--A+
Suite 102
387 East Main Street
Bay Shore, NY 11706
(631)665-0328
This man is a genius. I used to get occasional zits, and didn’t want to worry about it for the wedding. He gave me acid peels and a few prescriptions and my skin was clearer than it ever was for the wedding! I will go to him forever!
Dea Salon 581-5800
Main Street Islip
Hair: Diane--A+ Diane (the owner of the salon) did my hair as well as the bridesmaids. During the trial we played with several different styles until I found exactly what I wanted. It looked perfect, and stayed all day! The salon opened at 6AM for us the day of the wedding, but she also travels to homes. $60 for trial, $75 for day of hair.
Makeup: Danielle from Dea Salon--B I liked my makeup, but I thought I got shiny pretty quickly. She did advise me to bring blotting papers as my skin tends to be oily, but I was hoping for something that would have stayed on without needing the blotting papers. It is possible that such makeup does not exist though! My BM looked beautiful too, though she insisted that my MOH needed a different color lipstick than what my MOH wanted. We ended up changing her lipstick before the ceremony.
Brows and makeup help: Jacqueline Nicole--A+ Of course Jacqueline was booked years in advance for my wedding, but she did my brows and even had a makeup session with me to show me what colors I should recommend the other makeup person use! She gave me brow powder and was such a help. I wish she had been available—she books so quickly!
Invitations: Laura from LA Productions--C- The invitations wound up taking much longer than anticipated, partly because they were faxing a proof to a fax number no longer in existence. It took me calling several times before the confusion was realized. This stressed me out a bit as it was getting closer to the deadline to send them out. They did end up being exactly what I wanted though.
Photographers: Duet—Charlie and Alberto-- A+ I haven't gotten my proofs yet, but Duet was wonderful to deal with, and the day of they were unobtrusive but really seemed to have a vision as to what would look good. I will review again after getting proofs, but I have complete faith that they will be wonderful.
Bridal Party flowers: John from Flower Michele--A+ John is wonderful—I showed him a picture of the bouquet I wanted (black magic with stephanotis) and it wound up being even more beautiful than I had hoped. The bouts and other personal flowers were also gorgeous, and he included a second bout for DH and some throw petals.
Centerpieces: M & F Florist (included with Timber Point)--C I was not too impressed with the centerpieces, but they were included with Timber Point and I decided it was not worth it to me to upgrade or pay to use another vendor. I would make that same decision again as centerpieces were not a priority for me, but their customer service was also not great. After meeting with John from Flower Michele it was night and day meeting with M&F—he was so helpful and they just weren’t.
Cake: Audrey’s--A The cake was delicious and beautiful. We met with Thomas, who was wonderful and helped us pick the best fillings, etc. DH thought the cake was slightly tilted, but he may also have had too many drinks at that point! Thomas is truly an artist.
Band: Good Clean Fun http:www.gcf.com Before wedding dealings--B Day of--A+
The band leader did get into an argument with my mom before the wedding, but the day of they were fantastic. Everyone was dancing throughout the whole reception, and several people told me they were the best wedding band they ever heard. I wanted a band that was not your average wedding, and relatively reasonably priced for a band. I would definitely recommend them to everyone.
Wedding dress: The Wedding Center in Commack--A I got two dresses, both from the Wedding Center. Service wasn’t the most attentive, but their prices can’t be beat. I did not get alterations done there as I had heard bad things….
Alterations: Rita Conrad--A
57 Craig Road
Islip Terrace, NY 11752

Another LIW bride recommended Rita to me. It cost $100 for hem and bustle, and taking off my straps. She was great at scheduling me nights and weekends which was very convenient. It all looked great.
Veil: Ebay Seller: Honeymoon Eve--A+ Veil was exactly what I wanted, at a price ½ of what it was in stores.
Headpiece: Ebay Seller: Eden Jewel--B The headpiece looked more plastic-y than I had imagined, but I don’t think anyone else would ever have noticed. It looked great in pictures, and was what I wanted (small, and not too high).
Tuxes: RSVP in Bay Shore:--A Prices a little higher than some other stores, but very convenient and attentive service. No complaints.
Hotel for out of town guests: Islandia Marriott--A+ Beautiful hotel with a bar, restaurant, and large indoor pool. We went to the bar with guests after the wedding.
Travel Agent: Ginger Peachy Travel, East Islip--B
There were a couple problems with Ginger Peachy—we booked, and then were told the prices went up after we left a deposit (?). After calling they corrected the problem. Also they were supposed to let the resort know we were on our honeymoon so we could get a free massage. When we arrived at the resort they were not told we were on our honeymoon, but they did take us into separate rooms to question us about the wedding to confirm we really were newlyweds! The massage was amazing!
Honeymoon: Couples Swept Away, Negril, Jamaica--A++++ I can’t say enough good things about this place. It may have been the best week of my life! It was so relaxing, the beach was amazing. There were 7 restaurants. DH went scuba diving, we went snorkeling, DH went cliff jumping….There was so much to do (and excursions were included in the price), but we loved just relaxing on the beach with a daiquiri in our hands! I can’t wait to go back, though the airport in Montego Bay is a little third world….
