Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

So ladies,

FH and I live in Chicago in a little apartment and we actually would prefer $$ than gifts (due to transporting the gifts and space constraints). Howver, we are still registering at places because we figure some people will want to buy us a gift. Anyways, yesterday we went online and started to look at stuff and add it to our list.

So you know how some things are a set, but they separate it on the list and therefore you have items that are costing like $10 but the entire set is like $80 or something similar. My mom suggested not putting those types of things on the list because she said that some people would just look for the cheapest item and I might just end up with the $10 gift alone. I thought this was crazy, but hey you never know.

So ladies, do you have any minimum amount for any item in order to make your list? I think I will try to keep all my items to at least $80 and above, but I saw a couple of things for like $40 that I may add because I'm a grad student and I know that some of my friends won't have alot of $$. I'll be happy for whatever I get, but honestly I would hope that no one would buy me a gift for $10 (unless it's a child).

Oh, do you ladies have a maximum amount? I would love one of those LCD Hi-Definition 50' TV . But I know that's not going to happen.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

you go and put whatever you want on that list! If you need it or will need it in your new home.....
if you want it but know you'll never buy it...

Oh..and since you're an out of towner, if someone DOES buy you a gift, you can be reassured they will have it shipped to you wherever you are living!

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

we had like maybe only 15 things max that were over $80

we had a whole bunch of stuff that was $5-$20, and alot of people didnt buy JUST the $5 thing... the bought like a whole bunch of the little stuff. (for our bridal shower, AND for our e-party)....

i think you should have a decent amount of things from Each price range... so that everyone can work within their means. JMO

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

I did not put a minimum on price for anything- I just registered for what I wanted.. I figure the average I spend on someone is like 50 to 75 for an e-gift or a little more for a shower- people can get a bunch of things that add up to that- like kitchen gadgets, etc.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

When one of my friends got married it was very irritating that everything on her registry was so expensive. Personally I always give money at the wedding but for things like engagement gifts and shower gifts I don't want to have to spend 80 dollars on a gift. IMO you should register for what you want and not what the price tag says.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

we put a whole bunch of stuff on our registary. we had $2 things like nice salt shaker and peper mill, and utensils like a spatula. we also had expensive stuff like a vaccum... so i say put WHATEVER you feel like putting on! this way people can buy and add up to what they WANT to spend.

Someone is going to give you what they can affod/want to give you. Just becasue your registry only has gifts $80 and above, someone isn't obligated to buy that. If they were really set on giving you only $10, you'll get a $10 check instead of the gift from the registry!

hope that makes sense.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

I registered for what I needed . I kept the mindframe of what I usually look for when buying someone else's shower gift. I had only a few expensive items on my list - and anyone who purchased lower cost items, bought up a BUNCH of them

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

I, too, registered for what I needed. I think some stores even break it down for you as to how many gifts you should buy in each price range, but I ignored it. We have tons of gifts on there that are like 30 bucks and under and I am assuming people will buy a few things. But I also assume that people will only buy what they can afford. Since a lot of my friends are getting married this year, a lot of us have already determined we will either chip in and buy an expensive item from a few of us or we will just give money.

The cheapest thing on my registry is $19.99. I didn't set out with a minimum, it just worked out that way. I registered for what I needed as well

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

Yea I definately think expecting a certain amount is kind of tacky (and I dont mean that to be rude) but some people just CANT pay 80 bucks for a gift. A variety will make everyone happy especially if they are feeling guilty for not being able to spend 80 bucks in hte 1st place.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

$2.99 for XOXO ice cube trays. My best friend came with me to register and she said tehy are great for making and freezing home made babyfood.

I think you should register for what you need but at the same time try to offer different price ranges to your guests.

For example, I registered for a lot of kitchen utensils but FSIL bought us the crock and a lot of the utensils for Hanukkah. Consequently, she bought a lot of the 'cheaper' things on the registry and there's not much left under $25.

I think the cheapest item on our registry is $4.99 and the most expensive is $399. Put whatever you want on the list.

Well I also put smaller inexpensive things on the list because when shower time comes around and they have a wishing well people put the smaller things in it.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

I would mix it up. I don't think just bc you have a cheap item on your list that someone is going to only give you that. Sometimes people give you a whole bunch of smaller things which is kinda cool. But it also is good to have cheaper things on there for people who really can't afford much.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

To be honest, my lowest price item is a $.99 olive pick. You need to give a range of items so that people who can't afford the larger stuff can buy you things you want. I put a lot of gagets on my registry and things that people can maybe buy in sets.

Re: Registry: what's the smallest price that's making your list?

Thanks ladies. I didnt even think about a shower. I wonder if I will even have one since I won't be in town until about 4 days before my wedding. How far in advance are the showers normally held?
