Saw House of flying Daggers this weekend...

First off, I have to mention I am REALLY used to subtitled movies. My brother and I loved to watch old Chinese kung fu stuff on TV as kids. Then I grew up and met Jim who loves Jet Li and hence we watch TONS of Jet Li movies in subtitles. This takes a bit to get used to as it’s very fast.

I loved this movie. It had its quirky parts that we “Americans” may not ‘get’ but it was a great movie none the less. I had to laugh at some parts I know weren’t meant to be laughed at.

Major rubbing point:
After the movie we came out satisfied and over heard a group complaining about it saying “It’s no Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon….” As a person who does follow these movie a bit I have to say, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was an excellent movie. It’s like trying to compare Braveheart to Indiana Jones. You can’t. They are both good movies of different types. House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon have NOTHING to do with each other. It will be a long time coming for a movie to touch Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, although I liked Hero an awful lot!

This movie was a great starring role for the main character. It leaves a lot of open questions and loose ends and there is your typical Asian Tragedies in this movie.

I recommend it, but I advise you go in with no preconceptions of grandeur and just enjoy the show. I do however warn, there’s some stuff that’s annoying repeated and a few pretty bloddy battles that oddly enough folks walk away from. LOTS of scenic shots too!

OOOH Can’t WAIT for the new Jet Li movie!!! WHOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!
