Happy Bday.
Being a Mets fan... this Tino news is GREAT news.
First off... Tino (even though he is loved by Yanks fans) isn't near the player he once was skills wise.
But regardless... Tino will now probably start at 1st. This moves Giambi to DH... and Bernie back in center.
This then means the Yanks will probably be not as hot to pursue Carlos BELTRAN... which means Beltran could be coming to the Mets.
God I hope they plan on starting Tino at 1B for 162 games.

I was in the city in the car and my dad called my sister to tell us the news. I screamed so loud that people on the street stared at me! I literally thought I was gonna pass out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy cannot describe how I feel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My baby is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found out about this the other day from FH's brother who works for the MLB player's association, but couldn't say anything yet cause the deal wasn't quite "done"---but now I can say that I am SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED that TINO IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!

actually from the reports i hear, and in the world of baseball, things change. If Giambi comes back, he and Martinez will share first base duties. And if they get Beltran, Beltran will be CF and Bernie moves to DH. Not sure what the plan is if Giambi does not return
Hey if this works out that the Yanks get lax in pursuing Beltran, and the Mets get him, I'm all for it. But from what I hear, the Mets are flirting with Beltran in order to get Delgado to make a decision.

I am so exicted! I love Tino! He was always my favorite!
According to the Yankee website, Tino will share first base with Giambi and be there if Giambi continues to have health problems. The Yanks want Beltran too bad to let this pass up the opportunity.

Figures a Met fan would have to come onto my thread and try to put a negative spin on this 
Bottom line- Tino is one of the most beloved Yankees of this generation. No matter if he is half the player he used to be or not, that is not the point at ALL. I know I speak for all of us that we welcome him back with open arms and hope that he brings back with him some of the magic that embodied the Yankee teams of the late 90s

The boot to where? The bench? He will become the most expensive bench warmer in all of professional sports.
They aren't voiding his contract. The yanks will have to eat that remaining 80mil or whatever is left on that contract.

The Yanks in MY opinion will eat most of Giambi's money because the chance of him tarnishing the team costs more in the end.
THose who know me know I LOVE TINO....LOVE isint even a strong enough word...
FH is PISSED( as a met fan , plus because he finds my TINO obesession a little weird..)

Actually she can because Girardi was named the bench coach. Sp she can't see him play but he will be in pinstripes!
As far as the type of player Martinez is, he had decent numbers last year on a pretty crappy team. In 458 at-bats (which is about 100 less than a normal season), he had a .262 average, 23 homers & 76 RBI's.
And I don't think this takes the Yankees out of the Beltran race. Personally I think the Yankees are not counting on Giambi and I think they don't even want him on the team.
