Weird question...were any of you afraid of getting pregnant?

This is the thing...

I'm sooooooooooo ready to have children and want to so bad...DH and I have had many discussions about when we'd like to start and that time has already passed...why? Because I'm petrified of being pregnant...

I don't know exactly what about it I'm so scared of...it's not being scared like what kind of a mother or parents will we be...it's really just the actual pregnancy itself that I'm afraid of...

Has anyone else felt this way? How did you get over this feeling? I know my DH is worried because he knows how much I want to have children...and now this...

Please help me!!!!

I did feel that way. It was my fear of the unknown. But I didnt know of any other way to get over it than to get pregnant and here I am days away from having #2 so I guess it wasnt THA bad

I am not trying yet but I am so scared! I have a recurring nightmare of DYING during childbirth
I like reading the parenting and TTC boards... it kinda helps me see the realities of pregnancy through peoples stories and makes me feel better.

We are TTC and I am so scared about many things... about pregnancy, about the delivery, about the future of my baby, about financial things.... I am even so worried about things that I should not been worried about.

I want to have a baby with all my heart and for that reason I understand you. I hope that in the moment that I am PG I am going to enjoy the experience and leave all my worries behind.

What helps me is talking about that with DH... that makes me feel better as same as reading and looking at all the wonderful stories around me.

Jenn, I know that it can be scary in the beginning. I was petrified of the unknown and I still am. As each 'milestone' in my pregnancy passes I keep saying oh that wasn't so bad. Jenn there is always a fear of the unknown. But life is always like that. Just jump in and go for it as they say.

I was petrified the first time around and even more scared now that I won't do something right, like I'll forget a vitamin or drink caffeine!!! It's definitely the unknown....but to me, it's worth it. In the end you'll have a baby...a piece of you and your husband in one little package!

I'm actually afraid of the belly. I don't know why, but pregnant bellys freak me out. I have never been able to touch one. I guess when it's your own it's different.
and i'm afraid of the labor. I'm pretty tolerant to pain, but I'm afraid of labor pain. And the epidural. that scares me too.

Hi! I was TOTALLY terrified of being pregnant..I was scared of what it would do to my body, how tired Id be, the labor part of it especially scared me more than anything..the whole process scared me...but its a beautiful thing to be pregnant..and I think its the fear of the unknown that scared me the most...but how can bad can it be...so many people go on to have lots of children..if it was that bad..they wouldnt keep doing it!

I recently found out I'm pregnant and I feel all of these things and so much more.

I am deathly afraid of the big belly (kind of freaks me out how skin can stretch that much)

I hate blood tests, needles all that fun stuff.

I'm even a little afraid of the ultrasounds. I'm excited but nervous. I had two sonograms of my heart and had to have the tech turn off the sound!

I scared to death of childbirth, epidural and IV (I once had an IV and almost passed out)

I just figured I'm getting older and want to have kids so had to do it sooner or later.

That's why we didn't plan anything, we just kind of played roulette to see what would happen......it made it not so scary.

Once you are pregnant, you have all the fears but there is sooooooo much excitement that comes along with it

YES!! Positively terrified!!! I am now 15 wks preggo and STILL scared! Of the next trimester, how much weight I will gain, what I will look like when I start to show, labor & delivery, the health of the baby, and all the other horrible, terrible things I've heard of that can happen to your body when you are PG!!!!

So far... I've had it pretty easy (knock on wood)... no M/S, no really nasty symptoms. But I'm still scared of what's to come!

Thanks so much girls for answering this question and being very honest...it's helping me to get over these fears that I have... .

Hopefully one of these days I will be able to see what it's really all about...and hopefully I won't be so afraid anymore!!!!

I am TOTALLY afraid too and I am PG!! I have a fear of the unknown...BUT...god has blessed me and I'll thankful for that. I'm just trying to take one day at a time. Seems to be working so far...I'm trying not to think about the months ahead..just concentrate on right now.

The only thing I am afraid of is not being physically fit enough to handle the intensity of labor...which is why I am trying to get in better shape now and will continue to walk, etc when I get pg. I wish I never watched that stupid movie Jersey Girl!

Oh my god, i turned to my DH during this and was like that's it we are not having children unless we adopt. I cried my eyes out over that.

I'm not really afraid of my belly getting big, because I know that with hardcore working out, I can get it back in shape. The only thing that scares me is the whole labor experience~the pain~the needles~etc...
Also, I've always associated hospitals with bad experiences, so that's why I'm a bit weary of the whole hospital/labor experience.
