Why did you pick your wedding day?

Question for Everyone: Why did you pick your wedding day?

FH and I picked ours because its the week before my spring break for grad school, that way we can honeymoon and not miss anything. Plus my family has a tradition of getting married in cold months (mostly Feb) but I wanted something slightly more spring like.

I answered cost, because we knew we wanted to get married in weather warm enough to enjoy the beach, but we couldn't afford the "high-season" or a Saturday . If we went with the following Friday night, it would have been about $25 more per person!

Ours was a combination of a few things...

cost because of time of year (fall/winter) and day of the week (Friday)

and

day...we figured there would be alot less people that have to take off from work that friday (day after thanksgiving)

Your date (day after Thanksgiving) was going to be our date for 2005 but we couldn't do it!

We picked the winter mainly because of cost. We are getting married Martin Luther King weekend (Sunday) and everyone we know has off. I wanted a fall wedding but am adjusting to the winter theme.

We originally wanted to go with the 20th of May because I figured it wouldn't be too hot or too cold but then we deceided to go with the 29th because FH asked me on Memorial Day last year to marry him and the 29th next year is memorial day not to mention we save almost $5000. Only now the church wont marry us on a monday so if we can't find a church then we are moving the date back to the 20th.

It's funny that before you are engaged, you want "such and such" a date or time for whatever reason.

Then, you get engaged, and you find out costs and you are like "OOOO, winter is so nice!"

I actually had wanted to get married the weekend of Memorial 2006. My parent's wedding date is on that Sunday...and I thought it would be nice. FH actually wanted to do it Nov. 05 which I was scared of...

Once we went around and found out the cheaper rates for Winter, we were sold. We thought of doing it Jan or Feb. but our parents were like "Nooooo"

Once we found out we could get winter rates at FT on the last weekend before April (and coincidentially it IS spring - spring starts on the 20th), we were so strong on that date.

I just can't wait till it's "less than a year to go"

So for us, cost plus avail. of venue.

We wanted spring....my FH and brother pass out easily when its hot so we didnt want late spring. Easter weekend (the weekend before was out)...so it was between out weekend and the few after that. FH looked at the dates and said he had a good feeling about the 22nd, so thats what we went with. it was planned WAY before the actual engagment!

Mostly cost for us as well. We wanted something around the holidays and January was cheaper than December & the FH will still be decorated.

Also, I hate the heat. I don't want to sweat or be one bit hot...I would rather shiver than be hot so winter it was!

We picked 9/3 for several reasons.

1 - It's my grandparents anniversary...it will be their 56th to the very day when we get married. They were also sunday of labor day.

2 - It's exactly 2 years to the date from when we got engaged

3 - We both wanted the beach, so we needed nice weather

4 - We are having 200+ guests and most are traveling from New England and Canada, so we needed it on a holiday weekend. Then we realized Canadians don't celebrate Labor Day. Oh well - more people are traveling from New England anyways!

5 - Sunday is much cheaper than a Saturday!

The availability, because I wanted a fri nite wedding and then the price came second.

I was only given two dates and the 2nd date was the day after my birthday. I didnt want another date to close to my b-day. I would get jipped out a GIFT!

we had origianlly wanted nov 3, 2006 - that would've been our 6 year anniversary. but,, my sister, who is getting married this year, aug 5th. told me that august is not as expensive as i think it is. so i told my fh and he said "we'll see." notice my wedding date, who di you think won that argument we went with the 4th because its a friday in august.

price and the fact that i have like five friends getting married in the next year and a half. i did not want my wedding to be the month after theres and i wanted my own time and i wanted it to be different. i love the idea of a winter wedding.

We chose our date due to cost. We wanted to be in March because any other months after March the prices at higher. So we did the second to last weekend in March. Hopefully it wont be to cold.

I really wanted a winter/christmas wedding, and we decided n the exact date because it is during advent and it's also the 2nd night of hanulkah. I'll be so psyched to light the menorah at the wedding!

....because of work/school schedule....will hopefully be graduating 2 weeks before.

we originally had july 28, 2006, but i just started school in sept (2 year program). i graduate the first thurs in august which would have been a week after the wedding, so we moved it b/c i also gotta take my state license 2 weeks after graduation.. August is going to be a majoraly busy and stressfull month for me in 2006.. plus waiting 2 years means we have more time to pay things off..

We knew we were going for a Friday before we even started looking halls, and that was solely because of cost.

As for the actual date, that was mostly because of availability and convenience. We originally thought of getting married the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. We thought that would be a great way to start off the weekend, and a lot of people get to sneak out of work early that Friday. Then the light bulb went off...and we realized that the traffic heading out east that weekend would be horrific, especially that Friday, so we switched it to the following weekend. I never thought I'd be a June bride....but now I can't wait!!! I'm very excited!!!

We selected the actual date based on the cost. It's a Thursday.

We knew going in that the things we wanted (and would not settle on) were:

Time of Day (evening)
and
Time of Year (a warm month)

We got those! We did not mind much about the day of the week. We went into it wanting Friday, b/c we knew Sat was most expensive and neither of us wanted a Sunday.

Can I pick two reasons on the poll?
1) summer because thats when I'm off (teacher schedule) and we want to be able to go on a nice long honeymoon right after the wedding. Also July 30 gives me a whole month after school ends to plan and do last minute things
2) on a Sunday afternoon because since we had to have it in the summer, Sunday afternoon is cheaper.

3. Oh and I did it around "my time of the month" I didn;t want to be bloated and PMSing for the biggest day of my life!

My FH and I picked our date because it was inbetween two important dates to us. October 10 was our first date and November 17 was the day he made a commitment to me. So, we decided that November 4 would be a good in between date to get married on. Plus, it was a little cheaper then October.

I picked "School schedule," but there are a few reasons. I teach, so I wanted to get married in a month with a school vacation. I'm also hopeful that the weather will be nice, even though it is the 2nd week of April. And, it gives us over a year to figure out how we are going to pay for this.

Well we basically went on cost...We knew it was cheaper in the winter months but never really thought March to be winter...After looking at a couple of halls we saw there was no real difference from Feb to March...We knew we wanted a Friday night bc of minimum reasons & again $$....

Never realized 3/31/06 was the last friday before the prices sky-rocket....So we picked it...It also happens to be my FG birthday..she will be 3 at our wedding!
