would you let a friend do your wedding make-up

Ughhhhh. . . I don't know what to do about this one. One of my BMs just called to let me know that her sister would LOVE to give me the 'gift' of doing my make-up on my wedding day.

Now, her sister is a 'make-up artist' and does make-up for weddings, but her style is definitely not my style. In fact she did my make-up when I was a BM for her sister. And in the pictures I look like a ghost!!!! (foundation was too light I guess).

My BM insists that her sister would listen to me and make sure that I'm happy, but I'm worried. I feel like I won't be able to get my way with the 'friend' and 'favor' aspect of it.

Has anyone had to deal with 'friend favors' on their wedding day?

Any suggestions about how to deal with this?

thanks!

Re: would you let a friend do your wedding make-up

Do a 'trial', the same way as you would with a make up artist.

And if you don't like that you can either correct it until you do like it - or just say that you're going for a specific look that you this one person does really well. Every artist has his/her own style and not everything always fits everyone.

i would repost this on BHB - i think you will get more coverage!

My opinion, don't do it. This is your face on your wedding day. It's not worth the gamble (and the girl will get over it.)

Re: would you let a friend do your wedding make-up

i had a friend doing mine, till she backed out because she got a new job and couldn't commit to being there. now i have less than four months to find someone and do trials. i could be worse, but it was a pain for her to do this to me--i live out of state and could have used other trips up there to find someone...now i'm time crunched and have limited trips to the area. i recommend hiring someone if you want the security of paying someone and being able to expect them to be there, ontime, ready to rock and roll. also, having a paid professional makes me more comfortable with voicing my opinion. but having a friend may be more economical. post this on BHB and you'll get more responses.

If she has done your makeup once and you did not like it then I think you should bow out now and tell her that there is someone that you really want to use who is more suited for you.
