SPANISH / LATIN BRIDES PLEASE HELP
HI Ladies, I need your help. My FH is Cuban and his mother had Spainsh Coins that she gave us for the wedding ( Not as the wedding gift, just as a traditional gift). I am not sure where this goes in the wedding or what to do with them for the ceremony. Can you please help me? If you have a copy of your program that would be helpful too.
We are getting married at a Catholic Church.
Thanks again...

Re: SPANISH / LATIN BRIDES PLEASE HELP
Im doing the coins too!!!! My FH is italian so he's clueless how this whole thing works. Your best man holds them (like the rings) he gives them to your FH to give to you. You then give them to your MOH to hold until after the ceremony. If you need the significance or something to jot down in your programs for an explanation, let me know.

Re: SPANISH / LATIN BRIDES PLEASE HELP
Arras is the name called for a Spanish Tradition which ensures that Prosperity is part of your life with your FH. It is used during the ceremony at the church...the priest will bless them...and then your FH will give them to you and say something....(I can look it up for you as I was a MOH for one wedding and the bride used this) And then you said something to your FH and give them back to him. This is a promise of him to always provide for you and also used so that you are always prosperous in your new life together. Let me look it up for you so I can post for you what you said to him and what he will say to you....

Re: SPANISH / LATIN BRIDES PLEASE HELP
Here is something I found. I'm still searching on my old files for the stuff that I wrote up before....
ARRAS
During wedding ceremonies in Spain, Panama, and Mexico, the groom presents the bride with thirteen gold coins (today silver coins are often used) known as arras. These coins represent the groom's ability to support his bride. The Officiant blesses the coins and hands them to the groom. The groom dribbles the coins through his fingers to the bride's hands. This passing through the hands is done several times, ending with the bride holding all the coins.
The bride cups her hands under the groom's cupped hands, the priest dribbles thirteen silver coins into the groom's open palms, trickling like a water fall into the bride's hands, and from her palms into a plate held underneath by an acolyte or "sacristan". The trickling of the arrhae or arrets or arras (from the Spanish word Arras, "earnest money" is a sign of fidelity and prosperity bestowed irrevocably and completed the marriage contract. The priest recites prayers over the couple and will continue with the Nuptial Mass at this point.
ARRAS After the exchange of rings, a groom offers his bride thirteen gold coins which he gives to her one at a time, promising to work hard and provide for their home and family. Giving the coins one at a time represents what was his, is now hers, also. The priest blesses the rings and the arras, which is an echo of the ancient Moorish tradition of the bride’s price. It is a small chest or tray of coins, which represent Christ and the Apostles as well as wealth, fidelity and strength.
In the Aras, the priest blesses a plate of coins during the ceremony, and gives them to the groom. He in turn gives the coins to the bride, who shall keep them along with other mementos of their wedding day. These are kept to ensure the couple good fortune and prosperity throughout their marriage.

Yup the above is true! My fave part? WE keep the coins! I guess the spaniards know who runs it! Ok, seriously now, yes it's a beautiful tradition! Felicidades!
