Friday Night Weddings
Most likely I will be having my wedding on a Friday night. 4:30 ceremony, 5:00 to 6:00 cocktail hr., 6:00 to 11:00 reception. I keep hearing from people (mostly on my FI side) that people will probably not come to your ceremony or come late because they have to work. They said I should have it on a Sunday because people are off. I really wanted a Sat night but sorry it didn't fit my budget. So many people have Friday night weddings now. I don't see the problem. Do you???

Re: Friday Night Weddings
We had a Friday night wedding...all I can say to you is that whoever wants to be there - regardless of work or whatnot - will be there. We had a packed church (our ceremony was at 6:30 - though it didn't start until about 7:15
)...I heard all the 'arguments' too - bottom line, this is the date we wanted and it worked for us.
Personally, as a guest, I prefer a Friday night to a Sunday night wedding...with a Friday night, you have the rest of the weekend opn...with a Sunday night, you have to get up for work the next day.....

Re: Friday Night Weddings
I, too, had a Friday night wedding and agree that whoever wants to be there, will be there. Our cermony started at 6:30 and there wasn't an empty seat in the house.I would also prefer a Friday wedding to a Sunday night wedding especially if I have to travel. I would be more apt to leave early because of Monday morning work. Most people also don't have a problem leaving work early on a Friday if they have to.

Re: Friday Night Weddings
We are having our wedding at 6:00 pm cocktail hour 7:00 to 8:00 reception until 12 midnight.I think that a Friday wedding is the best the people that matter to you will be at the ceramony and that is all that counts all the close Family and friends will make it there business to get off work early and stuff. so don't worry about it everyone might not show up to the ceramony but they will surely be at the reception
Good Luck finding a date

Re: Friday Night Weddings
We aer having a friday, daytime wedding and people know they just have to take the day off if they want to come. No one so far has had a problem with that.

Re: Friday Night Weddings
No problem. The people that love you and want to be there for your ceremony and can make it, will be there.I've taken days off to be at friend's weddings who got married on a Friday. I'd much more prefer to take a day off to see a friend get married than be in the office!

Re: Friday Night Weddings
Maybe you can push your ceremony up an hour and have your reception go later. People won't mind a late party if they have time to get there.

Re: Friday Night Weddings
I don't think there's anything wrong with Friday night weddings but definitely think about your guest list. Do you think it will be really hard for some of your guests to get there on Friday? Would it be easier for them and you to have it on Sunday? Keep in mind that if you have a lot of people with a long drive, they'll probably have to take a day off either way.Personally, I'd rather have people come a little late than leave early which is what a lot of people will do on a Sunday. Anyone who really wants to be at your ceremony will take the time off work to be there anyway.
Good luck!!

We are having our wedding on a friday night.

Same here!
I feel that is enough time to go home and relax a bit and get ready to enjoy a wedding.

Re: Friday Night Weddings
I am having a 4pm ceremony, cocktails from 6:30-7:30 and the reception from 7:30 until 11:30. As a person who has traveled to many oot weddings, I'd MUCH rather leave work either early or take a Friday off to travel than be hung over for work on Monday. Especially in the summer--I'm ALWAYS looking for an excuse to leave work early!I figure, who ever wants to be there on time will make the effort, those who chose NOT to go to the ceremony--they miss out!

Re: Friday Night Weddings
We are also having ours on a friday night...we were worried about people coming late or having to leave work early or take off...we just figured if they really want to be there they will...We ended up booking the friday after thanksgiving so majority of people are off that night...I have taken off for plenty of friday night weddings...people will do the same for yours...

Re: Friday Night Weddings
I'll be honest about this. I'd go to the ceremony depending on whose wedding it was. If it's a close family member or very close friend, I'd go and take a few hours off from work. Otherwise, I'd skip the ceremony and likely get to the reception late.I was invited to a friend's wedding last year. The wedding was on a Friday night and was pretty far out in NJ (near PA). I realized that my FI and I would both have to take the day off to attend the wedding. The drive itself would be over 2 hours. Once you figured traffic into the equation, it'd be at least a 3 hour drive. If I left work normally, waited for my FI to get home, both got ready, we wouldn't have gotten there until close to 10pm. Long story short: we didn't go.

Re: Friday Night Weddings
We are also having a Friday wedding. Saturdays in June were just out of our budget. My ceremony/mass is at 3:30 and reception starts at 7pm. I sent out save the dates about 11 mos. before, so those that want to come will, those that don't won't. My FMIL is paranoid that none of her family will show up. Too bad if they don't. You can't please everyone. Do what's good for you.

Re: Friday Night Weddings
Yup, whoever wants to be there will! People just like to give their unwanted opinion, don't listen! We're having our ceremony at 3pm...cocktail hour starts at 7pm and reception lasts until 1am. I would much rather leave work early on Friday than take off Monday - so a Friday wedding trumped a Sunday night one in my book.
Good luck and don't stress!

Re: Friday Night Weddings
I am doing the Friday night too. Don't worry anyone who wants to be there will be there. Everyone in my family so far has gotten married on a Friday night. I am #5 in the family and every wedding has been packed including the church. Think about it if you do a Sunday people may leave your reception early b/c of work. People might also have a long drive back if they are ott or whatever it works out to be about the same. Personally, i like Friday b/c you have the whole weekend to do whatever or recoup
