Oh yeah, that's what we're getting too... and we're definitely not the first to get married!!! That's funny that you said that about the guest - that's exactly what I said to FH 2 nights ago when, the second the invitation hit one of his friends's mailboxes, she emailed asking if she can bring her bf of like 5 weeks. A) if you were invited with a guest, it would have said and guest, no
B) 5 weeks?!?!?! The wedding's still 8.5 weeks away - what makes you think you're still going to be together!!!

Some people don't get it... and prolly won't get it until it's their turn to plan their own wedding! You just need to be polite and firm and just say, we only have so much room for so many people and unfortunately, we have to limit who can and can't come to the wedding.
And if they say, it's just one person, then you give them the old, 'If I say yes to you then I have to say yes to the other 7 people I gave this same speech to... and possibly the other 3-4 who will ask the same question before my wedding!'

I just say ' Oh im really sorry but we only budgeted for x amount of people and we cant afford to go over that amount! we even cut out a few other friends b/c it was getting out of hand ( which isnt true but makes them feel honored that they werent one of the people to get cut!)

I think people forget that it costs a lot of $$$ to bring a date, especially if they know nothing about planning weddings!

Yeah people can just be clueless and rude. My friend went through that- people asking to bring dates and she felt bad so she would say yes.....they swallowed 36 plates at their wedding. Quite a few people never showed with their 'guest' aftering saying they were bringing someone and didn't even make up for it in the gift.

That is funny.. I did this to my friend.. I WAS invited with a guest though.. she was under her minimum... I sent back the rsvp as '1'... late I might add....I later found out my exes frat brother was going and didn't want to go alone.. I called her and asked if I could bring a date.. (i didn't have anyone to bring, I just didn't want to be the only one without a date with exes frat bro there) SO I asked my friend mike... He had a ski trip planned, He suggested I take his roomate stephen.. who I met only once... I did out of desparation.. NOW I AM MARRYING HIM!!!!
P.S. I will kill any of my friends who do this to me... Very hypocrytical.. I know...But in my defense.. she was under her minimum anyway. I think you never realize how stresseful wedding planning is until you do it.. My friend was also the first to get married... She didn't plan ANY of her wedding though. Her mom and sister planned the whole thing.. So I don't feel so bad. My friends listen to me and my other friend talk about wedding planning so they know how much goes into it. She never discussed it because she didn't plan it... and therefore we were a bunch of clueless kids. WHY AM I JUSTIFYING THIS.. I AM MARRYING HIM NOW

I like that response-honestly people have some nerve-my cousin replied back to another cousins wedding that he was coming with a guest (he was invited with a guest) but he didn't have anyone to bring!!! He was probably just hoping that he'd find someone and then worst of all his sister (who has a boyfriend of over a year) replied she was bringing a guest and then she didn't bring him either!!!!!!!! So at our table there were two empty chairs-and the excuse was 'They had to work' GIVE ME A BREAK!!! You knew about the wedding for months and got your invitation 8 weeks before the date he could've asked for off!! What is wrong with people-to my wedding they are most likely going to be invited w/o guests because I'm not as nice as my cousin-I'll flip out!!!

Re: Does anyone else have really rude friends???lol
The worst thing for me is that people at my mom's job is inviting themselves...with guest. One of my mom's co-workers is practically begging for an invitation (mind you we have not sent any out yet, just the STD). My mom has no responded to the woman yet (GO MOMMA!). But another one of her co-workers (who I guess assumed she's invited with a guest) told my mom that HER DAUGHTER wants to know if she can bring her boyfriend!
I don't even know the girl, or her BF!

I too did something similar to this last year to my cousin, but I still don't think I was wrong. FH invited me to his wedding and didn't invite my FH. Mind you, he has met him several times at family functions since FH and I have been going out since we were 16 (so that's like 9 years now). My mom tried to feel out the waters with my aunt and my cousin, but she told me that they hinted that they wouldn't have room and $$ fo an extra person. So I was upset and hurt that my FH was not invited since we are engaged and I honestly was not going to go to the wedding, but I eventually did. I figured okay FH is not close to my cousin and I still wanted to celebrate my cousin's getting married. Anyways, when got to the reception it was like 'OK' I definetly could have brought FH. It was not catered. Basically, family members cooked food and they had some of the teenagers from the church serve it at the reception. His wedding was actually the best one I've ever been to because I had so much fun (I've only been to 2 weddings though), but I would never invite someone to my wedding without their fiance or significant other if they were going out for so many years.
