I have to change my wedding date...

My brother will not be back from Iraq for my wedding in August. So we are changing the date to 2006. I'm not sad that we have to change the date....I'm very sad that we have to chnage the date because he still won't be home. More time to save and plan I guess.

Look on the bright side-My friend got married in September & her brother was shipped back out to Iraq 2 weeks before her wedding & she could not change date. So, at least you have time to make sure he can be there. I am sorry to hear about this happening to someone else.

Er, are you sure he's gonna be home in 2006? If not, I wouldn't postpone it for that reason. As sad is this is gonna sound, it's possible he may not be home for a few more years.

We had to take that into account when choosing our wedding date also.

He was home for he wedding, but he was shipped off to Korea a month or so before the wedding, and only came back the day before it!

I'm sure your brother will be home in time....the longest my brother has ever been gone is 9 months.....

Oh no I am so sorry! That is very considerate and sweet of you taking into consideration your brother and his situation though.

There are neww rules now. They can keep you for 18 months and then keep extending it for 6 months after that. We know 2 people who have been away since the summer of 2002. It *****, but that's just how it is.

I'm sorry that you have to go through this, but that is such a wonderful thing to do. I hope your brother returns from Iraq quickly, safe and sound. My brother in law might not be back from Iraq for our November wedding-his return date is supposed to be right before our wedding day.

So sorry to hear that. I am in the same boat as you. My brother is scheduled to leave for Iraq at the end of this month. We are not changing our date though. Although I will miss my brother tremendously, we plan to include pics of him on the photo montage and other areas during the day to have his presence around. The other reason why we are not changing the date is exactly because of what Cubabbride said....they told my brother 7 months but they can always change thier mind and keep him for a year and then send him back again for a 6 month period.

My prayers are with you and family as well.

Uh, I don't think so. I have family over there who won't be here for my wedding and don't know when they are coming home. I also FM'd her to explain why I said what I did. It wasn't to be mean.

It also depends on which unit they are in. Don't worry so much about when he returns, just that he returns home safely.

Im sure it will all turn out okay I had to change my date to 2007 but it was far from the reason you had to. I wish there was something that could be said to reassure you but I've never been in your situation so I wouldn't know what to say except,'God does everything for a reason and it's not always the reason we will accept!' If you need anything just a shoulder or a Know we are all here for you
