Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

I felt bad for my friends who's twins were 45 minutes apart.

Romanian Woman Has Twins, Two Mos. Apart

By CONSTANTIN MIHAI

IASI, Romania (AP) - A 33-year-old Romanian woman who gave birth to a son in December on Monday gave birth to his twin brother almost two months later in what has been called a medical first in Romania.

The mother, Maricica Tescu, has two uteruses due to a rare congenital malformation, said Mircea Onofriescu, a doctor who manages the Cuza Voda Maternity Hospital in the northeast city of Iasi.

Tescu gave birth Monday to a 5.7 pound baby boy by Caesarean section, 59 days after giving birth vaginally to the first child, a 3.5 pound boy.

The two babies and the mother are doing well, Onofriescu said.

The first baby now weighs the same as his brother, and the two will be released from the hospital at the same time, after about a week.

Tescu, a landscape gardener, also has an 11-year-old son.

``I'm happy everything turned out well,'' she told news agency Mediafax.

Re: Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

so what was the reasoning for leaving the second one in? Did he need longer to cook?

Sounds like it. The first one was only 3.5 pounds, so I guess he was a premie.

Re: Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

if she has two uteri, does that mean that she had two periods a month and how are they twins??? how can one egg travel to two different places.

was it donor sperm?

Fraternal twins are from two different eggs, right? So isn't this the same thing, just that the eggs landed in differnt ovaries. I don't know how that works, does oe etube lead to one uterus & the other tube to the other uterus?

Re: Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

I meant with 2 different uterus' is she ovulating twice a month. because then isn't it possible that baby #1 was concieved on 1 night and baby #2 another? or are fallopian tubes connected to both uterus'

Re: Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

I'm not sure. I would think she would ovulate noramlly, and sometimes it goes to one uterus , and other times the other uterous, depending on which ovary it came from. I would think hormonaly, when the one ueterus became impregnanted, like a noraml case, the body wold stop ovulating.

This is all I could find that made sense so far:

http://web1.tch.harvard.edu/cfapps/A2ZtopicDisplay.cfm?Topic=Cervical%20Duplication

Cervical Duplication

The reproductive tract forms as two tubes which meet in the midline and are intended to fuse. There are cases where fusion does not occur and two cervices can result as with two uteri. This may or may not be associated with a complete vaginal septum. A woman with two uteri and two cervices can have a normal reproductive life. She will need a pap smear performed from each cervix, one marked right and one marked left. She does have normal reproductive function, although based on the fact that she has two uteri, each of which is smaller than a normal single uterus, she is at risk for premature labor and also for breech presentation (which means that the baby is coming out feet first) which would most likely necessitate a cesarean delivery.

Re: Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

ok, also found this:

It is highly unlikely that both uteri are pregnant since this requires simultaneous ovulation in both ovaries. It may be possible after hormonal treatment to stimulate ovulation in case of infertility.

Re: Woman gives birth to twins 2 months apart.

I can beat that I know a woman who had Faternal twins two years apart.

Technically Faternal twins come from two seperate eggs fetilized at the same time.

She used donated sperm and donated eggs and ended up with several fertilized eggs.

She had 1/2 implanted and 1/2 frozen.

The first 1/2 produced a child and two years later had the 2nd half implanted and produced a child.

So technically they are frateranl twins concieved at the same time from the same parents born two years apart.
