Bikram Yoga?
In addition to going to the gym to get ready for the wedding, my trainer has suggested that I try Bikram Yoga--the one where you do yoga in a super-hot room. Have any of you tried this? Can you recommend a good place to go (preferably in LI since I work out in the morning but maybe NYC)? Thanks!

Re: Bikram Yoga?
I watched a TV show about that type of yoga on FIT TV. It does look like a hell of a workout. It amazes me how people can bend like that...lol. Good luck Jennie!

Oh, 63rd and 3rd isn't too far from my work. I have to avoid the Flatiron area though since that's where my ex-MOH works
The one in RVC looks good too -- they have early morning classes. Kim-I'll let you know how it goes. I'm certainly not as bend-y as some of the people on the website though!

Re: Bikram Yoga?
I cannot say enough about bikram yoga. I feel like I sweat out all the bad stuff in my body. Just be sure to drink lots of water. There's been some controversy in the yoga community regarding bikram yoga though. Apparently, the 'founder' of bikram yoga started suing non-licensed providers. The founder claims that the series of yoga poses are very specific and that he invented it. Other yogis say this is total nonsense. Lots of places have avoided advertising 'bikram' yoga and call it hot yoga or steam yoga instead. Personally, I think all of them are great for your body.Whoa. I got majorly sidetracked, didn't I?

Jen- if you go to 63rd- I'll meet you for a class- that is my block! Although I spend an arm and a leg for my gym membership- anything else to get me in shape for this wedding!

Hey Jennie, if you decide to go the RVC one, I'll possibly join you. I live in O'side, five mins from it, but I would rather be all sweaty on the weekends not before work, so if you go I'm down....FM me

This is awesome! I'll have a yoga partner in the city and at home!
Pickles--I was thinking about doing the one on Sat morning at 10.
Randella--I can probably do any one during the week that starts at 7 or later if that works for you. It looks like there's one on Tues nights? I might be able to leave a little earlier for the ones that start before 7 but my work schedule is a little unpredictable.

Re: Bikram Yoga?
I LOVE Bikram yoga-I had to stop b/c it's too hard to do while prgenant, but some women still do it...I went to one in the Dix Hills area off Jericho Turnpike, if you go to bikramyoga.com you can find it--i highly recommend it!!!

Re: Bikram Yoga?
I went a couple of times, but it did make me break out a bit. Also, I feel like it can't be good for you to sit in such a hot room like that. I also felt I was sweating because of the heat, not because of any physical exertion...
It didn't feel like I was getting a good workout...JMO!

I tried it once and stopped halfway through and I've done regular yoga for years now. I too feel that it can't be good for you. It really can tax your heart. Since strokes run in my family I freaked me out. I would take the extra step and call my doctor to get his ok. JMO.
