Bridal gowns with corset backs

I am trying to decide between two dresses that look very much alike. One has a corset back, the other doesn't. Initially I had not liked the idea of a corset back, but I was told that I would probably need fewer alterations (I am a little disproportioned...basically, I am a normal-sized 14 top, 10/12 bottom) if I got the corset. Also, the corset back one was soooooo comfortable!

Do any of you have any advice about corset-backed dresses, one way or the other?

Re: Bridal gowns with corset backs

Even though I haven't gown shopped yet. as a larger-chested girl, I LOVE when I can find a corset back dress for other occasions. I wore 2 different corset backs for both of my proms, a corset back gown for my FSIL's wedding, and I'm almost positive I'll end up with one for my wedding gown.

THey are just SO comfortable, and so forgiving!!! and they look GREAT!

Good luck with your decisions!!!

Yes,

I have a corset back dress... Maggie Sottero's Grace.

I just picked it up the other day. I love it because..

1. It doesn't squash my boobs down. The chest has a shape to it. So many dressed just cut across and seem to flatten out the chest unless you wear a significant boustiere

2. I don't have to buy a real expensive undergarment. I think I've found one bra in my whole life that was comfortable despite being measured, buying expensive ones etc. I'd probably feel uncomfortable in whatever I had underneath

3. I'm really in there... I plan on dancing A LOT at my wedding and I'm confident thatt there will be no Janet Jackson moments in front of my Uncle George

Downside...

It's a bit of a hassle getting in and out of it but show me one wedding dress that is easy to slip in and out of?

FM me if you need more info.

Re: Bridal gowns with corset backs

For someone with a bigger top and smaller bottom - as I have and you say you have - it was very flattering! I couldn't have found a better choice!
The only alterations I needed were the hem!

I had a corset at my wedding and YES! to everythig posted here.
Please just remember to bring a sewing needle to thread it on your wedding day. Also, the bridal shop would never tie it up in any of my fittings so the knot was hard to get in to each notch and it took us 45 minutes to do it.
I would suggest putting them through each one at your first or second fitting.

Re: Bridal gowns with corset backs

I like the look of a corset back. It made my stomach look so flat - and like another poster said it didn't squish my boobs.

I also have a corset back dress and it makes you have a really defined waist even if you are chubby

Definately YES to everything that she said...I just ordered the same dress this week...and I LOVE how comfortable the corset feels...no pulling it up because its tied to what you feel comfortable with...

Re: Bridal gowns with corset backs

I wore a Maggie Sottero with a corset back and loved it! I have to say that without a bra it flattened my boobs and gave me that sports bra look so at the suggestion of the seamstress I bought a long line bra that gave me the lift and padding needed for the girls not to get squished. It also gave me some nice yet classy cleavage. See pic in my avatar.
