Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

Well as long as public transporation is running into NYC (in my case Metro North), there is no excuse for me not to come to work unfortunately.

My office NEVER closes, so there isn't ever such a thing as 'too much snow to come to work' that can justify staying us home .. They will make us use a vacation or personal day to account for the absence

Though I'm seriously thinking of using a vacation day tomorrow if I have to dig my car out , just to not deal with the trains running like crap .. it will depend how bad Westchester is

I took a personal day on Friday, just to not deal with the trains.... guess I'm stuck now. Oh well - I was able to get a lot done on Friday.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

I just got an email about possibly closing early today.

We are in a small office, so if we are open, I kinda have to be here, unless, like Felecia said, the Metro North isn't running. I can't take a vacation day, b/c then everyoen will do that & no one will be here.

Well, I guess I should get some work done, in case I do leave early.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

If it is more effort to get in than it is worth, i.e., I get in at 11am and wind up leaving at 3 or 4....then I am not going in. I have e-mail and voice mail access at home. My boss lives further out in NJ than I do so he understands the situation. My other boss though, lives in the city and on the same street as my building, so she is not as sympathetic. Oh well.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

In 7 years at this company, and almost 4 in NJ, we have had exactly ONE day off for snow, and only because McGreevy delcared it a state of emergency.

They s**k. I'm just waiting for the day that one of the employees gets into a bad accident and they are held accountable. It's awful.

Of course, these are the same people who made us keep working on September 11th even after we knew what was going on and people were collapsing and crying in the hallways because they couldn't get in touch with their spouses. I shouldn't be surprised.

Sorry, I'm having a grumpy I hate my job day.

Our company does not close for any reason. Even if we get a foot or more of snow we are expected to arrive at work. If we cannot make it...we must use a personal, sick,or vacation day. It stinks.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

I work in a small office & we have determined that if there is 6 inches on the ground tomorrow AM, we are shutting down. It is basically my call considering my boss will be stuck in the airport waiting for his flight from St. Croix

My company does the same. Even a couple of years ago when we had so much snow that the trains were not running, they expected people to get in and those that did not come in were charged a day.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

No matter how much snow falls, I may get 'lucky' and get to leave at 5, a whole half hour early.

This may never happen though, I am only guessing from what I know of my company.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

If the buses and trains are running we have to come in. I think they only closed once in 98.

The company already sent around an email, and we are allowed to dress down.

Re: How much snow do we get, for you to stay home from work?

We also have only closed once in the 10 years I have worked for the company. It was in Jan. 1996 when we got 20 something inches.
The only reason I get to stay home now is if the kids have off and my dh can't stay home or I can't get a sitter.
Actually there is no after care today so my sister is picking up my dd at the bus and my dh will pick her up after work. If she has no school tomorrow, he said he would call in sick.
