X-post from 'Pets' but I'm P!SSED--literally!

I woke up this morning to FH's cat (of course it was HIS cat) jumping on top of me and then off the bed. I felt something wet and noticed some yellow droplets on the WHITE comforter. I yelled something like 'that's f'ing disgusting!' which woke up FH. We look in the MIDDLE of the bed and there's a big ol' puddle of yellow piss in the middle of the, again, WHITE COMFORTER. The best part is that it soaked through the 2 layers of sheets to the mattress, which was g-d-awful expensive and that we just paid for.

At first, I thought he might have UTI or something because he just sat there in the hallway licking his paws. Usually when he's done something 'wrong' he knows it and runs away. BUT, then I wasn't sure if he did it out of spite because FH has been a little derelict in his litter cleaning duties (hence, my Litter Robot post from a few days ago).

I threw the comforter and sheets (brand new, by the way) into the wash with hot water, bleach, detergent, etc. And we used Pet Stain on the mattress. Any other suggestions? I'm so worried the mattress will be ruined but I don't think it seeped in too much.

What a way to start a Saturday morning!

Well if you FH isn't cleaning the litter box...well yea he definately would do it out of spite..and to be honest i wouldn't blame the cat! I would blame you FH! I mean how would you like to go to a toilet that was piss and sh!t ridden? Not too happy i bet.
My mom's cats get pissy if you wait more than 24 hours to clean theri boxes!

If that isn't it and you clean the box and he does it again..maybe it is YOU. DO you think the cat is jealous of you being there?

Or yes i would take the cat to a Vet to have him checked...just in case he might have something wrong!

Our cat did that and it turned out that she had crystals in her bladder or kidneys (can't recall now) so maybe a trip to the vet will help.

On the very rare occasion that our box is not clean enough our cats will just go right outside of it. So I think illness is more likely.

Re: X-post from 'Pets' but I'm P!SSED--literally!

oct2004--I think it was litter box dirtiness (and yes, I'm quite annoyed at FH for this!) rather than jealousy. We've been living together for awhile and his cat has known me for 3 years.

I thought about taking him to the vet today but I think we're going to wait to see what happens today and go from there. The good news is that it looks like the stain is out of the mattress. The bad news is that this is all happening on a day when FILs are going to be here for lunch! Hope the smell dies down by then!

you might want to put 'Nature's miracle' on your mattress - sold in pet stores. I dont think it works as well as the bottle says it does - it wont repel your cat from going on the bed, but it should take the stain and smell out.

Re: X-post from 'Pets' but I'm P!SSED--literally!

My Cat did that a Few months ago and she ended up having a Kidney infection. I would watch and see if the cat shows any trouble going to the bathroom in the litter box, and if yes, take him/her to the vet right away. Cats usually DO NOT do what you described unless something is wrong.

What sometimes happens is if the litter box isint clean enough for them, they will hold it in and thats what creates the bladder/or kidney infections.

try vinegar. Any other smell is better than cat's pee.

This is why I am glad I bought the extra 'stain protection' warranty on my new mattress.

I can sit the and pee on it... and they have to send someone to either clean it up... or replace it.

I agree, when cats don't go in their litter box, it's usually a sign of sickness.
