Buying a dress at a Trunk Show

Quick question. Do you girls know if you save 'a lot' of money if you buy your dress at a trunk show? I love Reem Acra, Kenneth Pool and Vera Vang but their dresses are around $4000 -5000 (the ones that I love). Did any of you buy a dress from a designer's trunk show and save?????

Re: Buying a dress at a Trunk Show

I got mine at a trunk show and got 10% off. Plus meeting the designer and working with her one on one helped a lot when it came to measurements and changes I wanted to make to the dress. And as someone else said, that should save money an alterations in the end.

Re: Buying a dress at a Trunk Show

yeah- it's about 10% to 15% that you would save, depending on the place..

I suggest only going to a trunk show after you have looked around-- you don't want to feel pressured into making a decision.

Re: Buying a dress at a Trunk Show

Sample sales are the best if the dress is in good shape. At trunk shows you only save 10% - 15%. At a sample sale you can save 50% or more.

I bought my dress at a trunk show and saved 15%... but I went in knowing what dress I wanted.... It was a Reem and I bought it at Klienfelds... (saved $550- can't go wrong with that!)

As far as samples.... even with the 50% off, I'd be weary.... a friend did that and had sooo many problems with the gown.. fitting it and fixing it...so on.... and the dress was in good shape.

I'd be weary of sample sales also. Most samples have been stretched in different areas from a million girls trying them on...so even if they look 'fine', the shape is messed up.

I got an Amsale at Kleinfeld's, and honestly I wish I had gone to a trunk show to get it. It was in the brand new line when I got it (ordered a year ago), and I didn't know anything about trunk shows...or that you get to meet the designer and she can make changes to the gown for you. Plus, 10% is a lot to save on a designer gown.
