I can't get my puppy to stop biting me
She is almost four months. And I know she likes to chew. But she constantly bites me and others. She is not mean, she thinks she is playing. But her bite is getting rough.I don't know want to do.
I constantly give her the toys but she shows lack of interest and prefers my hands, feet and hair.
And she isn't interested in that Kong toy.
Any suggestions.

Re: I can't get my puppy to stop biting me
I know how you feel. My puppy is a terror with biting. and im having a hard time with her also. I am surprised that the Kong toy doesnt occupy her time at least for little bit. I bought it the other day and it keeps Missy out of trouble for a little while. What kind of puppy do you have?? I have a puggle. she is the cutest only when she is tired. LOL.I dont know, but when she gets a little older (10 weeks she is now) i might take her to petco or petsmart for some training. Its pretty cheap too!!!! Ill do anything.

Re: I can't get my puppy to stop biting me
she is an english bulldog.I have been told they like to chew, just like pugs.
I thought about training too at Petsmart. I couldnt' believe how cheap it was. My friend just paid $800 for a trainer to come to the house (for eight weeks).
I read your post and I tried the Kong things after that. She honestly could care less. But I might try it with peanut butter instead of the treat. I think she might like that.
I guess I let her get away with a lot since I feel so bad she is home alone for so long threw the day.

Re: I can't get my puppy to stop biting me
Any time she bites, you need to say 'Ouch or No Bite' or something short and stern like that. You have to stop playing, petting, whatever and ignore her until she calms down. Also try replacing your hand with an acceptable toy. Our dog won't chew anything hard, so we have softer plush toys and ropes.

try whipering or growlingalso we used bitter apple a few times after she started biting after that all we had to do is take out the bottle and she stops immedialtly

Re: I can't get my puppy to stop biting me
This is what my trianer tells me too do. you Have to teach the dog how to bite nicely. They are pups...they chew.. they won't stop for a while.. SO we have to show them how hard is too hard. When your pup is NOT chewing go over and stick your hand in his mouth. Let him chew away, When it hurts yell YIPE or OWWW really loud. BUT DON'T PULL YOUR HAND AWAY. he should stop chewing and then start again. Do this over and over. Eventually they will learn. It worked with daisy. But you can't start doing it in the middle of a puppy attacking you time. YOu have to start the training period.
This comes from pack learing. The mom would let the pup know how hard is too hard to bite.. so you have to be the mamma...
I learned all this in our Puppy Kindergarten class... It has really helped Daisy be more bearable. They don't train her, they teach you how to train the dog.
Petco's around LI are just starting up thier trianing programs.. They sound good. But they weren't starting until the spring. It was really wierd all the Petcos had 'just hired trainers' I don't know if they just started the programs or if they only do it in warm weather?? Maybe it is outside??? ANYWAY, I couldn't wait bc Daisy was driving me bonkers so I went to a place in Huntington. FM me if you want the details. It was 275$ for 8 weeks in a class with 6 pups.

SFPO214 -- you ended up taking Daisy to Happy Dog? How do you like it? Satchmo graduated from puppy kindergarten there about 2 weeks ago and we signed him up for Basic Obedience starting this week. We thought about taking him to the Petsmart classes to continue his training because they are so much cheaper, but since he's already learned so much we thought it might be a lot of review. We also weren't sure it would be the same quality level since we didn't know the trainer's background and the classes are given in a ring inside the pet store. I was there on Saturday and there was literally a crowd of people with children and dogs surrounding the ring looking on and commenting. However, for the price, the classes do seem pretty good. Has Daisy learned 'Wait' yet? This is the best thing we have taught Satchmo. He waits for toys, food, to go outside. It's great.

When Baby used to do that we would let out a help and she would stop and look at us like we were crazy. With repitition and consistency it paid off.

Honestly.. we are the worst parents. We work sooo much that we hardly ever train her.. You get what you put into it.. She waits for her food and if you put a treat on the floor but not for the door. We may be doing basic but after wedding when $$ are easier to come by. I hope its not too late. I just wish 'come' was easier. She does the runaway recalls but Ellen said 'Come' was not for like 2 more levels. Basic and then the next level class?????
We really enjoyed it but I don't think I would take her to petsmart because fo the same reasons you had.

Recall is one of the most difficult things to teach dogs. I bought a DVD called 'Really Reliable Recall' from dogwise.com so we could get extra practice. My dog is a Pointer and they are really independent dogs -- he will completely ignore us if he is interested in something else. I didn't want to have to wait for 2 more levels of training and the DVD is great. It came highly recommended. You mighht want to check it out for some extra practice.
