Did anyone else CHOOSE a buffet style dinner even though you were offered sit down?

I think its so much more social. Im a vegetarain and my FH and his firends all dont eat carbs and a lot of the ladies on my side...

All that food would be wasted and what if they dont like the dishes... Im doing buffet b/c after Cocktail hour people arent starving and then they can pick and choose what they want and get seconds etc...

Is your reception at night or during the day?

If you're doing a day wedding, a buffet would be appropriate, should you decide to go that route. That's my opinion

Re: Did anyone else CHOOSE a buffet style dinner even though you were offered sit down?

Absolutly!!
I am having a nighttime reception and a buffet. My crowd are party people so I think it was the best choice. Everyone will be eating and dancing at the same time and there will be food from the beginning to the end.

Re: Did anyone else CHOOSE a buffet style dinner even though you were offered sit down?

FH and I chose to do a buffet style dinner. I want my wedding to have a party feel and I want people to be able to mingle and enjoy themselves instead of having to eat at a designated time. I want my family and friends to be able to eat what and when they want. FH was a bigger pusher for this decision because both of our families are more laid back. Oh and if it makes any diff, my wedding will be on a friday night.

I always love buffet weddings, day or night. I like the fact that people aren't forced to eat at a particular time. I got out voted and had a sit down for mine.

Re: Did anyone else CHOOSE a buffet style dinner even though you were offered sit down?

We were all over the buffet! They asked us right away what we wanted and we looked at each other and said 'buffet!'

I don't think the time of day matters at all, though our wedding is a friday night wedding.

I think with a buffet you get so much more food and variety. We are such picky eaters and want to eat what we like. Not one meat and veggie/potato that we dont' necessarily care for.

With the buffet, we have SO much to choose from. It's insane!

I personally prefer sit down- buffet is just to casual for a wedding IMO.

i think a buffet is okay for a daytime wedding but a little too informal for an evening reception where people tend to get more dressed up and its alot more formal but thats just my opinion

We're having a buffet as well! We looked at pictures and it's makes for such a beautiful set up! I agree I like the flexibility and that people keep moving around. I hate being trapped at my table for an hour and a half.

Re: Did anyone else CHOOSE a buffet style dinner even though you were offered sit down?

we are doing a buffet style - we arent formal people and I truthfully hate having to get off the dance floor and sit down to a formal dinner at weddings. I usually barely eat anyway and I think its perfect b/c the ppl who do like to eat a lot can go back as many times as they want! I'm all for it!

I had a rolling cocktail party, some would consider it a buffet; my wedding was very formal. It did not lose it's formality but just made it less boring for everyone! No sitting around waiting for dinner talking to people you don't like

I agree. I sometimes get annoyed at buffet weddings where I have to stand online to get my food while I'm standing in heels. I'm always nervous about dropping food on my dress.

i didnt choose buffet b/c i just dont like them- wedding or restaurant, i prefer ordering from a menu. that is just personal preference. DH wanted a buffet - i tend to think the guys like it better for some reason.
get what you want and what you can afford. people will have fun regardless of what you choose

Re: Did anyone else CHOOSE a buffet style dinner even though you were offered sit down?

Absolutely! We would never have done a traditional sit-down dinner - just not our style. However, I will say that I wouldn't have considered your basic buffet-line dinner either. We got lots of different stations, and multiple stations of each type where necessary so that there wouldn't be any possibility of lines anywhere. We still had assigned seating, and plated appetizer and dessert courses, but served the main course station-style for about 1.5-2 hours. It's alot of food, alot of fun, and alot of mingling. It mimiced the 'better' functions we had been to in the past, through work, socially, or whatever - all classy, black-tie, evening affairs. One word of caution - we actually got higher quotes for this type of party than for a sit-down at all of the places we considered, but decided it was worth it to get what we were looking for.
